JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba has died.
We don't have many details, but Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart has confirmed his death.
Lumumba won the Mayor's office in June 4, 2013, pulling 86% of the vote and defeating independent candidates Francis P. Smith, Jr. , Richard C. Williams and Cornelius Griggs.
Mayor Lumumba was born August 2, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan. He is the second of eight children born to Lucien and Priscilla Francis Taliaferro.
Mayor Lumumba earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He later finished first in his law school freshman class before graduating cum laude from Wayne State University Law School.
Mayor Lumumba is a nationally renowned attorney who is licensed in Mississippi, Michigan and U.S. Federal Courts. He has represented clients in over 16 jurisdictions, including Canada and the Choctaw Court.
Mayor Lumumba has won settlements and/or judgments for victims of medical malpractice, employment discrimination, sexual harassment and police misconduct. He has worked in high profile cases such as the representation of the late Tupac Shakur.
In 2011, he helped win the release of the Scott Sisters who had served 16 years of double life prison sentences for an $11.00 (eleven-dollar) robbery which they did not commit. He also successfully represented Lance Parker who was falsely accused of assault during the 1992 Los Angeles uprising which followed the brutal beating of Rodney King.
Prior to his election as Mayor, Mr. Lumumba served as Jackson City Councilman for Ward 2.

Reminder: This is the progressive, socialist mayor that was trying to turn Jackson into the capital of a New African Republic.

Socialist piece of shite, he was indeed.
He was also one of the most racist pieces of shite I've ever heard of and I live in LA. He once said something like he was gonna run all the white people out of town.

doesn't matter, it's not like Jackson, MS is going to run out of kook liberal pols any time soon
Just plug in the next idiot, who will probably use this one as a martyr. It's what dems do.

The guy he beat in the primary runoff was a young DINO that given the chance, might have turned this shithole around.
Jonathan Lee - started a multi-million dollar business, was MSU's young alumnus of the year a few years back, but his daughter has a white person name that he was demonized over.

Such a great tragedy for the great people of Mississippi.

Won't matter. Jackson is the Gomorrah of the south. Only a matter of time before there's a black hawk down scenario

The city council appoints an interim mayor and must call a special election w/ in 30 days. Then there will be a qualifying deadline and an election. No telling who all will run.

I hope for Jackson's sake Lee decides to run again, but I would bet on Jackson electing someone worse tha Lumumba.

But if David Duke or any known white racist died, the whole world rejoices like there's no tomorrow.
See the difference? ....I didn't think you would.
The world is better today than it was yesterday with one less POS around
