According to a source, the projection for the 2014 salary cap is now at $132 million.
This should help us with signing JG.

This should put us at about $7.2m under the cap, just enough to tag Graham.
Expect restructurings and maybe another couple of cuts before March 11 to clear room for FA.

Yes, it should help. But, tag numbers are not only based up salaries of other guys, but percentages of the cap number as well. With a rising cap, so does the tag.

I don't think this is correct.

There are two types of Franchise Tags, exclusive and non-exclusive: An exclusive Franchise Tag gives the team full negotiating rights on the player, meaning that the player is unable to negotiate a contract with any other team, but requires the team to pay the player a rate no less than the average salary of the top 5 salaries for that position in the current year or 120% of the players salary in the previous year, which ever is greater. A non-exclusive Franchise Tag, allows the player to negotiate contracts with other teams with their current team is given the right to match whatever contract they sign, if the team decides not to match the contract they are given two first-round picks as consideration. The contract salary formula for a non-exclusive Franchise Tag is based off the average of the last five years of salaries for the top 5 players at that position.

I see that, but I wonder why noone knows how much the tag numbers are until the cap is set. They keep saying "projected" tag number. The current salaries are known, so why is it just "projected"?

The number isn't going to rise much at all. We're talking a few hundred thousand at most.

That's a lot of money to some of us, you snob.

Non exclusive is based upon the salary cap, and it sounds like you are right. Won't be a whole bunch more.

The NFL starts by calculating a "franchise tag" amount for each of the prior five years. The franchise tag amount is the average of the top five salaries at each position for each year. Then the NFL adds up the last five franchise tag amounts and divides them by the prior five total salary-cap amounts.

Yeah I don't think I've made that much in my life yet. I'm 30 so there's time, but I'm lucky to reach $1,000 total in the bank most of the time.

Hopefully this gives us enough room to get Roman Harper back on the cheap.
