MSNBC not-so-subtle Freudian slip

The most misleading anti-Obamacare ad yet?
02/21/14 12:30 PM—UPDATED 02/22/14 09:51 AM
By Benjy Sarlin
It’s an explosive claim. A woman diagnosed with lieukemia recounts how, thanks to Obamacare, her insurance was canceled and the cost of her life-saving treatments are now “so high, it’s unaffordable.”
“If I do not receive my medication,” she says. “I will die.”
The ad, targeting Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Gary Peters, comes from Americans For Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group backed by the Koch brothers. The woman featured in the campaign, Julie Boonstra, is not an actress, and her story is real. But when it comes to the claim that Obamacare has increased her bills, let alone threatened her life, there’s a chasm-sized gap between the horror story and the information available about her medical situation.

Interesting since 'leukemia' is not and has never been spelled as 'lieukemia'. I wonder if it's a legit typo or are they really calling this cancer patient a liar? I say the latter since 'i' is at least a key away from 'e' and 'l'.

I loathe MSNBC as much as the next guy.
But you're reaching here.
Chalk it up to the incompetence of the writer.

With MSNBC, you never know. They claimed "Chicago-style politics" was a racist term, and did so with a straight face.

You'd have to waterboard whomever wrote that article to know whether or they were employing a sophisticated form of psychological suggestion...or just blew it.
My guess - MSNBC being the epitome of Leftist deception - the writer knew exactly what they were doing. And they knew that THEIR intellectuals would pick up on it, and get a laugh. And that any gains in regard to the 'useful idiots'...would be lagniappe.

Honestly, I think MSNBC realized a long time ago that they've lost any semblance of being recognized as a professional news organization. Therefore, any moronic behavior or tactic is fair game.
That's why their on-air "talent" has to issue apologies more than all the other networks combined. They're free to say or do almost anything, knowing that they will only get called on the carpet if the public (97% of whom aren't even watching MSNBC) get upset.
You think MSNBC would've fired Martin Bashir if there hadn't been a public backlash? You think anybody at MSNBC would've ordered MHP to issue an on-air apology if it hadn't caused a stir?
There is no internal moral compass at MSNBC, and that's why we can all look forward to many more meltdowns in the future.

You made this whole thread based on that?

Typo aside, did anyone read their explanation of why the ad is dishonest?

Yes, if I'm going to reach, I may as well reach with a thread as well.

You make it sound like that is uncommon to any organization of any kind. Even Churches often don't fire people unless someone makes a lot of noise about it.

Here's the crux of the issue that White House's Propaganda Machine aka Washington Post, MSNBC, NBC, NY Times, etc. are not mentioning.
The Propaganda Machine is only mentioning this.
Yet they conveniently do not mention this.
I personally witnessed a similar incident this week when I went to fulfill a friend's prescription. Under Obamacare, he must get his doctor for every refill and refills of this drug are limited to a week's supply at this time and the out of pocket have gone way up. It's not on the "approved lists" while other drugs they have approved are not good as they caused some issues with his kidneys and liver.

Woods explains in her article that while Boonstra's ACA plan co-pays are technically increased above that of her phased-out private plan that she was under prior to the new healthcare law going into affect -- from $13,200 a year to $6,852, the ACA caps her out-of-pocket expenses at $6,350 per year. That math would place the increased financial burden on Boonstra at two dollars.
Yet they conveniently do not mention this.
quote:
"I honestly don't know what those numbers are going to amount to; for instance, I've went in to have a prescription filled, thinking well it's never been a big deal ... I never gave it a thought," she explained. "And now it's no longer covered. So people are asking me for the numbers and I don't know those answers -- that's the heartbreak of all of this. It's the uncertainty of not having those numbers that I have an issue with, because I always knew what I was paying and now I don't, and I haven't gone through the tests or seen my specialist yet."

Butbutbut I thought they had an HHS mandate where medically necessary drugs were free.

They also don't explain how she now has to come up with the $6900 before any coverage kicks in rather than the $6900 spent spent over the course of the previous year. The first is much harder for many than the 2nd.

Martin Brashir was fired? Who is that?

Don't hate. If this was Fox News you'd be on this like white on rice.

Probably a legit typo, most news organizations haven't had good copy editors for some time now. Plus the pressure to publish ASAP is even more intense since it's all online now.

They, just had to squeeze this in "backed by the Koch brothers"
