The shite Hits the Fans

No, seriously, if you´re heavy metal inclinated, probably start with Pleased to Meet Me.

The really good stuff however, is Let It Be and Tim. Both are a count hair shy of five stars in my book.

I'm partial to Hootenany but Tim and Let it Be are great too.

I'm partial to all shook down. The die hards hate this one but not me. All their albums have really good stuff. Just listen to all of em.

Hootenany
Could be a bit much for his first exposure, but I agree, it´s a great album as well.

Maybe that shite after Pleased to Meet Me, which I think is ultra ´poppie´ and shows flashes of brilliance may be up his alley as well. For me, however, that wasn´t The Replacements, that was a toned done Westerberg solo with accompaniment.

Agreed. Some more than others. All Shook Down had some good tunes, for sure. The album before had three, maybe four. Both were pretty much Westerberg, however.

Start with Let It Be. If you don't like it, the Mats aren't for you. It's their most accessible album while still being raggedy. Then try Tim. If you like the shaggy dog vibe, then go to Hootenanny, Stink, and Sorry Ma I Forgot to Take Out the Trash. If you instead like the songwriting but think their sloppiness is a bit much, go check out Pleased to Meet Me instead, and avoid their early stuff. Under no circumstances should you listen to All Shook Down.

Hootenanny is my favorite Mats album, but it's an awful place for a new fan to start.

Tim
Let It Be
Pleased To Meet Me
All Shook Down
Don't Tell A Soul
Hootenanny
All For Nothing..Greatest Hits compilation & B-Sides
shite Hits The Fans
Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash
Boink/Stink EPs

That's all I can think of off top of my head. Also Westy's solo stuff contains bursts of greatness amongst it's fleas and lo-fi flaws. Stinson's Bash & Pop and solo not bad, and Slim Dunlap's solo album underrated.

For great bootlegs try FoshayTower and also Westerberg's Man Without Ties message board..

Bent Out of Shape is a tune which easily could have fit in Pleased To Meet Me. Easily.

If intending it not an Replacements album, I agree, it's the first unofficial Westy solo disc. But, it is a damn fine album sans the totally awful collaboration with Johnette Napolitano..two of my fav singers from the 80s..just an atrocious tune though.

Exactly my point. I do like Westerberg's solo stuff... but its not the Replacements.
