Did the big 12 not having a conference game affect LSU in 2011?

I just remembered that was the first year that the big 12 started to split and there was no conference game. If Oklahoma state would have won the game would that have been enough to jump bama? Big 12 destroyed our season!

Okie State's one loss was not a normal game...

That "missed" FG on top of it all

They lost a 2OT game ON THE ROAD by a FG.

Bama lost an OT game AT HOME.

They narrative has always been, a road loss is more acceptable than a home loss...until it involves a high profile team.

The shittyness of ISU didn't help, but the media an everyone who voted Bama ahead of OSU was hypocritical.

Saban sold his team better than Gundy, plain and simple. Gundy's selling point was "would you rather a 39-36 game or a 9-6 game?" Dumbass!!!!!

What he should have said was "who is more deserving, a conference champion or a team who didn't even win their division much less their conference?"

We lost the narrative from the very beginning, when all the stories of the GOTC focused on how Bama "beat us except for the missed field goals". So the opportunity for a rematch to "make things right" was always going to be there if no other undefeated team was available.

The minute OSU missed that field goal, Bama was in.

It was a total screw-job and didn't reflect the reality of the game played, but college football is ruled by the narrative.

Still, no excuse for the way we played that night.

Another narrative is that if LSU doesn't play Oregon to open the season, LSU probably faces Oregon for the national title.

This.

ESPN unashamedly campaigned for a rematch to wreck the BCS.

Notice how the talk of a playoff began in earnest the very next week.

Instead of using the typical criteria to judge who should be the number two team, ESPN invented the "Eyeball Test" to arbitrarily elevate Bama pass Okie St. Expect more of this now that we have a committee.
