It's kind of a joke that Mud has zero nominations.

The film was incredible and was praised universally by critics.

Why the hell did it get snubbed so bad?

Because of release date?

The movie has been unfairly forgotten by the Academy.

part of it I'm sure is it's early release date. but also, while it's a really solid film, I just don't think it's good enough to warrant any big category noms.

I really enjoyed Mud as well but for what categories do you think it should be nominated exactly? MM was good but not Oscar-worthy good like he was in Dallas Buyers Club.

As for no noms whatsoever, I thought I recall someone posting a link that Mud somehow didn't qualify as a 2013 release for whatever reason...

Best picture

cinematography

director.

ETA: I thought MM was great as well, but I'll hold of on having him nominated because I have not seen Dallas Buyers Club.

Someone here mentioned it was because it showed at some film festivals in 2012.

I like how MM has gone from clowned on actor, said frick this, and now people really like him.

It was decent, not great. This was a strong year.

This. Mud just released in the wrong year unfortunately. If you look at the noms this year, its really hard to say that Mud got screwed over.

Disagree, just going off the list Mud was a much better film than Captain Phillips.

It was a good movie, and I enjoyed it. But I don't think it's better than the actual nominees for Best Picture.

You all are entirely missing the actual reason, which is that it didn't have a good campaign. Every movie up for an Oscar nomination, every actor, every director, all of them were campaigned for.

I think if anything it should've relieved a writing/directing nomination. I'm not sure what you bump though but Nebraska comes to mind as the weakest I've seen of the nominees.

They liked Dallas Buyers' Club better. Since both were McConaghey vehicles, the wwent with the DBC. Frankly, it's a better movie. (I really liked both of them)

Captain Phillips is not worthy of a Best Picture nominee. Its a good film no doubt, but Mud was far superior.
