STAT OF THE DAY (via the New York Yankees and Elias):

"Of the 2,602 regular-season games in which Derek Jeter appeared, he played in only ONE game in which the Yankees were mathematically eliminated."

Wow!

I'm pretty sure Posada played in zero in his entire career.

I'm assuming that means only one game where the Yankees were out of it, but the division and/or wildcard had not been decided yet.

Regardless, pretty impressive.

Did he sit games after they got mathematically eliminated? Because if so then the stat isnt as impressive.

Eh, 2008 he's playing if they're still in contention.

so if he sat because they were out of contention doesnt that completely discredit the stat?

Instead of one game it would be six. Still unheard of either way, but not quiet as impressive.

Jeter > Ripken

Jeter was in seven World Series and batted .321/.384/.449 compared to Cal's one Series in which he hit .167/.286/.167.

Jeter's career average is .313, Ripken's is .276. Jeter had a much better on-base percentage (.374 to .340) and Jeter out-slugged Ripken, .465 to .447.

did you type all of this out with a straight face? I don't even know where to start. Comparing # of World Series (a team accomplishment)? Good lord.

Yes Jeter is a better hitter than Ripken. You completely ignored defense though where Jeter was barely even average, and ripken was great.

To each his own who is better (for me its ripken) but you're analysis on why Jeter is better is pretty laughable.

Better at what?

Fielding is the only thing you can argue.

Jeter also owns Ripken on stolen bases.

quote:

where Jeter was barely even average

Fielding, Ripken has a slight endge. Jeter's career fielding percentage is .976 compared to the league's .972 while he's played. Ripken has a career .979 percentage, which is 10 points better than the league's .969 when he played.

The overhyped Ripken and Chipper Jones -
