What are some good strategy PC games?

What is the best bang for your buck? saw some friends obsessed over League of Legends, Warcraft, and Battle for middle Earth . Is Rome: total war any good? thinking about getting that.

Isn't really a strategy game like the others you mentioned. It's in a different genre. It's really fun and FTP if you end up liking it though.
I would recommend Civ 5 as well.

Bang for your buck is hard to beat if you don't mind it being in space.

Couple of questions:
Loved hearts of iron 1, disliked 3. Is 2 the best of them?
Also loved the first crusader kings. Is #2 that much better / different?

Command and Conquer: Red Alert is now completely free, and is one of the best and most classic RTS's of all time.
The game has been reworked with a facelift and a few new units and UI changes mixed in.

2 is the best. I had days played on my original copy. runs a lot better on steam too.

total war rome II got good reviews before it came out and a ton of award in 13', not sure about afterwards though.
