Sounds like a real classy guy.

quote:

Former U.S. Rep. Melvin Jay Reynolds, a once rising star in the Democratic Party who resigned from his seat after he was convicted of statutory rape, has been arrested in Zimbabwe on suspicion of possessing pornography, as well as on an immigration offense.

Not sure if Billory is going to want this to get played up:

quote:

Reynolds resigned from his congressional seat in 1995 after he was convicted of 12 counts of statutory rape, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography. While in prison he was also convicted of bank and campaign fraud. He was in jail until his sentence was commuted by President Bill Clinton in January 2001.

According to his wiki page:

quote:

In January 2001, Reynolds was hired by Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/Push Coalition to decrease the number of young blacks going to prison.[5]

In 2004, Reynolds was overwhelmingly defeated in the Democratic primary by incumbent Jesse Jackson, Jr., with Jackson netting 88% of the vote.[2]

In late 2012, the Chicago ABC affiliate reported that Reynolds had plans to announce his candidacy to replace the recently resigned Jesse Jackson, Jr. in the Illinois's 2nd congressional district special election, 2013.[6]

On February 18, 2014, Reynolds was arrested in Zimbabwe for overstaying his visa. He was allegedly found to be in possession of pornographic videos he had filmed with several women at the hotel where he was staying. Possession of pornography is a crime in the country. He had also purportedly accrued over $24,000 in hotel charges that he had yet to pay.[7]

A convicted criminal with designs on a congressional seat.

Sounds like he is as loyal as he is moral. Quite the statesman.

it doesn't say what happened to his statutory rape, kiddy porn and obstruction sentences. odd. later in the article it suggests that WJC commuted his fraud sentences. you'd think those first sentences would've still been running when his fraud ones were commuted.

suffice to say, this guy is a first-rate scumbag that WJC clearly had no problem supporting knowing his scumbaggery.

eta, i was reading the Politico piece, not the Fox one:

Not only that but I think he overstayed his visa. If I had to guess underage girls might have been his reason.
