No, but I remember having a 3 hour protest session at my grandparents house when I was a child. And by protest I mean, they wouldnt let me leave until I ate it all.

Grandparents were dirt poor growing up which is the reason I believe they felt it was important not to waste.

My parents never enforced that. I was a picky eater who never ate much at once...so if they had a "finish your plate or you're not leaving the table", I would've never left.

Getting a smaller portion first and then getting more if desired is definitely the way. At least if I have stuff left over, usually my brother or dad would eat it.

I urge them to eat most of the small portions I do give them. Most times they ask for more. I had to clean my plate and have never been a fatty. I don't worry about my kids because we are very active. That's what is wrong with kids these days is they sit on their asses to much.

My parents had the attitude of "why force a kid to eat if he isn't hungry"? WHAT was for dinner was non negotiable, but if I didn't eat it all, my parents didn't fight me.

ETA: the food never went to waste. My dad usually ate the leftovers for lunch. And I do the same now, so it all worked out.

I will. And i was made to as a child. I am not fat.

This is an article from the huffinton post. Where if you accomplish for yourself, then you must be embarrassed for your success. After all, there are others in this world that are jealous of you, and they are the only ones who are "true" Americans in the minds of the huffpo.

i'm convinced my kid would never take a single bite of food if i didn't force him to do so... dude could go a whole day on nothing but a poptart, turkey sandwich, and water.

Taken right from reddit. Add this to the thread you started earlier, there's only one conclusion... Hello Kashonly

My dad use make me eat over my cylinder. His reasoning is that your plate is a cylinder that goes infinitely up. As long as you eat in the cylinder you don't spill any food

It's stuck with me for life

I think the point here is that people are giving their kids portion sizes that are too big, and still expecting them to eat all of it.

I'll admit I don't know if it's masculine pride or embedded conditioning from these kinds of rules growing up... But I really don't like leaving a plate unfinished. Big thing to overcome in some situations when you're trying to watch what you eat

There's nothing bashing women in the OP, so it can't be Kash.

I have 3 kids, and we serve very healthy meals. We don't really make them finish, but they have to at least try everything. However, if they don't finish, they can't ask for anything else until the next meal and definitely don't get dessert.

They typically clean their plates, though, so I have it pretty easy.
