BATON ROUGE- An 18-year-old and two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the home invasion at former LSU baseball coach and athletic director Skip Bertman's house Saturday morning.

Police arrested Moises Marquez, 18, and two unidentified teens, both 16-years-old.

Investigators said Marquez is a relative of an employee at Bertman's home on Ormand Avenue and had been inside on multiple occasions. Police believe during one visit, Marquez unlocked a window with the intention of returning.

Police said the trio returned to the house early Saturday morning and were in the process of stealing LSU championship rings when they made a noise and woke Bertman up, who apparently struggled with them before they were able to get away with the rings, worth about $8,000.

Marquez knew exactly where to go, investigators said.

Marquez was booked into parish prison on simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling charges. The two teenagers face similar charges and were booked into juvenile detention.

The status of the rings remains unclear, a police department press release outlining the investigation made no mention of the stolen rings whereabouts. LINK /

It's a damn shame Skip didn't have a gun to take these slimy bastards out of the gene pool.

That could've turned out so badly for everyone involved.

Man I hope to God I never encounter someone in my house in the middle of the night. I would hate to have to live the rest of my life knowing a killed someone.

Same goes for if someone tries to rob me in my driveway or try to carjack me while pumping gas. I'm always carrying in those situations in certain instances and the last thing I want to do is take someone's life.

This kind of crap seems to happen frequently with the people one hires to work around the house. I hate having to have people come by to repair or do other work around the house.

After Checking his Facebook, one can see why Skip was able to fend off such a punk even at his age

Furthers my idea of public canings or whatever form of punishment. Have it once a month downtown with vendors and such. It would be a nice example of "that's what you get when you do bad things. Right now there are no consequenses for bad actions. POS do not care if they have to go to parish prison for a short time, too full to keep them for long.

I feel the same way. I really think that i could honestly look at it and say that I didnt kill them...they committed suicide when they broke into my house. I had no choice at that point and couldnt not hesitate to see if I could save a life if they were already in my house.
