Has Belle ever admitted it
quote:Jose Conseco said in his second book about steroids that Belle used them.
or been accused by anyone as credible as a supplier?
I wonder why, if Belle was such a great player, in the two times his name was included on the MLB Hall of Fame ballot, he received 7.7% of the votes cast the first time and 3.5% the second time?

Must be why 900 other kids were drafted ahead of Bregman the year he came out

Yea, Belle had a few things working against him. He wasn't a favorite of the media, he did play during the steroid era, but retired before drug testing began, and he did get caught with a corked bat. They add up to him not being given any benefit of the doubt.
I do agree with one of the above comments where you need to compare his numbers against his peers. They hold up very well.

Bregman has a huge disadvantage with these bats. Give him the old bats and he would hit for power as well as average

The media and baseball writers absolutely hated/hate Belle, and with good reason, he was an enormous a-hole. He was also robbed of the 1995 MVP because of the disdain the media had for him.

You apparently don't know the story of his senior high school year and the baseball draft.
In his junior year the scouts told him he was going to be a first round draft choice his senior year.
During pre-season practice his senior year he broke his throwing hand and didn't play at all after that.
The scouts told him his draft status would probably drop to the second or third round. He told the scouts consistently if he wasn't drafted in the first round he was going to LSU.
He wasn't drafted in the first round and that was the only reason we got him. He stuck to his word.

Nope. Black and white, just like Belle and the HOF.

How many MLB hall of fame votes has T Walker received?

Choose your reply wisely, Choup...

Todd Walker was eligible for the MLB Hall If Fane. He received 0 votes.
Thank goodness! Who the hell wants to be in the Hall If Fane?!?

It's quite the Hall. It's the place where they keep all of the runner-up trophies and they honor the alternates to the All Star games. It's just around the corner, about one block, from the Hall of Fame.

You who love Belle so much, I agree, his numbers, however earned, are off the charts. But if I am asked to choose the greatest Tiger in any sport, I want him to be a Tiger. And Belle is no Tiger.

Why is Belle not a Tiger in your eyes?
Posted on 2/18/14 at 3:31 pm to LSURussian
It is so damn hard to make it into the Majors. Brad Cresse, Blake Dean and Eddie Furness are three of the greatest baseball players to ever put on an LSU uniform and none of them even sniffed at the big leagues.
Bregman is doing what he's suppose to do at this level. Making it to the Majors is not a forgone conclusion.
That said, I do believe he has a future in professional baseball.

Because to be considered for the HOF you usually need to reach certain milestones......3,000 hits, 400 HRs......1,500 RBI.....career .300 average, etc. To reach these milestones generally requires 15 ML seasons. There are only a handful of players in the HOF with less than that. There is only 1 player from the modern era with less - Kirby Pucket who hit .318 (2,304 hits) in 11 seasons. Belle basically only played 10.5 seasons in the ML. He finished with 381 HR, 1,239 RBI and a .295 BA. Andre Dawson was elected with a .279 BA and 438 HR in 21 seasons. Ron Santo got in with 342 HR, 1,331 RBI and .277 BA in 15 seasons. Had Albert Belle played 15 there is no question he would be a HOFer no matter how big a prick he was to the media. Steve Carlton was just as big a prick but that doesn't erase 329 wins, 4,126 strikeouts and 4 Cy Young awards over 24 seasons.
