CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Workers at a Volkswagen factory in Tennessee have voted against union representation, a devastating loss that derails the United Auto Workers union's effort to organize Southern factories.
The 712-626 vote released late Friday stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches.

not if they don't feel the union dues are worth it and/or the union can represent them long-term.
i applaud them for making the decision they feel is best.

Screw unions and the mindset that allows them to exist.

The NLRB is crying out that the results of the election is Bull shite. This is an organization that still has appointees that were declared fraudulent appointees by federal courts. It was them that denied Boeing the right to build air craft in South Carolina on a strictly political party line with Bozos appointees(legitimacy declared bogus) to it.

Slightly exaggerated but I get your point.
Unions did serve a purpose in the old days but are outdated now. We live in a global economy where companies will move factories to places with lower wages. Boeing should have been allowed to make airplanes in South Carolina.
Unions were useful in an era where workers couldn't defend themselves but now with all the laws and regulations on the books they can. It's not like the bad old days when thousands of iron workers were dying due to unsafe working conditions.

I also heard yesterday union membership in Louisiana is at historical lows (something like 4% compared to an 11% national average). I'm glad these sources of inefficiency are slowly being purged.

frick unions... I hope they all die off a slow and painful death.
The union bosses are concerned with 1 thing... $$$$ for their pockets. With the amount of Federal laws, Unions serve no purpose. At one time they did, but not now.

Purging of the public/government unions is something we don't read much about. I think that affects us more than the private unions.
With the loss of union jobs in the job market I can't understand why politicians don't take a stance of ridding the government of unions considering the drain being put on taxpayers with the union's retirement programs.

It will be challenged, Bob Corker was all up in the middle of the issue. I have no dog in the fight but I am pissed that Corker spent way too much time on this crap when he should be doing more to represent all of Tennessee and not being a lapdog for the Harry Reid.

Posted on 2/15/14 at 8:06 am to Phideaux
what was corker working on with reid as his lapdog?
and what might happen in a challenge- another vote?

Don't blame me, I voted for Mark Clayton.

Maybe Tennessee doesn't want to end up like Detroit.
