Kentucky if you can manage to get an Elk tag.

1 state for both? I didn't think their ranges overlapped much...

This is true, there are giant elk in Kentucky, Tennessee and believe it or not Pennsylvania. Getting a tag is next to impossible.

Difficult to get tags bc population is a issue?

There are here in Arkansas too, but short of shelling out big money in a RMEF auction, tags are impossible

Very limited range and numbers

I didnt read it as one State for both. In that case I'd go with Montana/Wyoming..

Those (along with Colorado) are most realistic considering you can actually get an Elk tag. I think the whitetail herd was hit hard with EHD 2-3 years ago in Montana and is still trying to recover.

I hear Southern Illinois actually has some monster whitetail--only bows are permitted to hunt with there I believe.

Ive also heard similar things about Iowa have big bucks.

Mississippi in the best in the deep south for whitetail. Deer population now is largest in history. But the flat states are easier to hunt

Im talking about a state with opportunity to hunt both. If I was talking about just one species Montana and Tenn wouldnt be in consideration for either

Iowa has huge whitetails, but the only elk are on farms. The elk are massive, but the farmer is gonna get pissed...

Then I guess it wouldnt qualify as being a good state for elk and whitetail would it?

Pennsylvania has some big deer and elk, but getting a bull elk tag is almost impossible, I think 25 are given every year

Iowa are where the monster whitetails are. Good luck getting a tag though -it's complicated and will take 2-3 years unless you know someone who owns land there.

Kansas is your most practical choice to kill a big one. Easy to get a tag and the deer are almost as big. Central location also.
