Axiall and Lotte Chemical of South Korea have announced a joint venture to build an ethane cracker in Louisiana.(2/11/13) Either Plaquemine or Lake Charles are the options.

How many acres would be required for this type of chemical plant?

All of Plaquemine.

Would be surprised if it is built

What other facilities involved with the process will be located there? You've got about 1000 other variables before you can get a good answer.

It will most certainly be in LC. Axiall has a ton of extra land.

Depends on how many people they need to watch the pressure gauge

Don't you have property across the road from the LC site. I did some budget work for an unnamed site in LC that was most certainly this project. It was between 200-250 acres of site prep.

Calculate the volume of ignitable gas that could be potentially release.

Determine the equivalent energy that could be released in the event of a vapor cloud explosion.

Plot the pressure wave over the site to determine the area.

Estimate your safe separation distances.

Convert that area in acres.

I think Phillips owns that land on hwy 90 and PPG road.

However, they have plenty of wooded land along I-210 to build this unit.

I meant that Charley Lake had property across the street from the proposed Axiall ethylene project site, which is the same property you are talking about along I-210. I thought I remembered a thread where Charley said he had some property just North of Bayou D'Inde. Sorry for the confusion.

You are correct. The parcel is located on the west side of Bayou D'Inde Pass Road. It is zoned for light industry but the area on the east side is zoned for heavy industry.

Just curious for how much space the plant would occupy not that I could provide any.
