quote:

Oswalt called Berkman a few days before Christmas and asked his friend about his plans for 2014.

When each said he was leaning toward retirement, Oswalt suggested they retire together as Astros.

“We actually got together at the first of the year and called the Astros to see if we could retire with them,” Oswalt said. “We wanted to retire together in Houston. I’m pumped."

“It means a lot. Houston drafted me and gave me a chance from the very beginning. You don’t see a lot of guys who are six-foot, 175 drafted to pitch. For them to give me a chance means a lot.”

I assumed Berkman would retire an Astro, awesome to hear him and Oswalt will do so together.

That's really cool.

Even though he played for the Astros for the bulk of his career, he was always one of my favorite players, going back to his days at Rice.

ETA: And I always wanted someone to accuse Berkman of using steroids so he could just take his shirt off and say "REALLY?"

The Wizard needs to come back and pitch a few games. He left one win shy of tying Dierker for the most wins in franchise history.

Roy's little body just couldn't withstand the torque he could generate for too many years. he had a great run there though.

Berkman is probably my fav non Braves player

The stories of him while he was at Rice are some of the funniest things I've ever heard/read about

My favorite Berkman story. He was playing OF in a college game on a very windy day. He misjudged a fly and it went over his head. He scrambled back to the base of the wall, picked up the ball and threw.

An empty paper bag from concessions flew by and the ball went into the paper bag and just dropped before reaching the infield. It was an inside the park home run.

When he returned to the dugout the coach told him "That's the worst play I've ever seen."

That coach would know, he used to hang out with Abner Doubleday.
