Do all think Louisiana should have a crab season?
Seems like the crabs are getting thinner and thinner from what people tell me. Guy in the business of selling them is telling me this. During a discussion with him and another person, They were saying Louisiana is over fishing the crabs. Prices are getting higher for smaller crabs. Crab traps are everywhere, more than ever. They said Louisiana should have put a season on them years ago.

What do yall think? I had no idea. Is this the case?

I can't even catch a dozen off my pier anymore because the canal has traps set every 20 feet.

i enjoy eating crabs year round and have never had a problem catching them or with them being skinny. But passing down certain canals is like a minefield with crab traps on top of each other, and of course the crabbers will blame everyone and everything else.

I don't know but lump crabmeat from LA is getting pretty hard to find. Most seems like it is from Alabama these days.

That's pretty odd, go down bayou Lafourche and you can buy bushels for $35. They have blue points for sale on every corner.

Yeah i think they should have a season and I have a lifetime crab trap license. You also have tons of crabs that are killed in trawl nets every year. So couple that with the over fishing by crabbers and it is amazing that any get a chance to reproduce. Blue crabs have to migrate to the gulf to spawn in the higher salinity. That is why you only see big males for the most part in fresh water.

Been a few years since I bought crabs. This was coming from a guy in the seafood market business in NOLA.
