Was introduced to this turd nugget of a precedent at a meeting recently.
Wikipedia link - good overview
The rest of the world can take their Haz-Com and stick it up their butt, right next to the metric system.
I haven't been feeling very 'global' lately.

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals or GHS is an internationally agreed-upon system, created by the United Nations
quote:
when the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), various governments and other stakeholders met at a United Nations conference. It supersedes the relevant European Union (which has now implemented the United Nations' GHS into EU law as the CLP Regulation) and United States standards.

United States: Published the final rule on March 26, 2012 for implementation of GHS. The final rule requires product manufacturers to adopt the standard by June 1, 2015 and product distributors to adopt the standard by December 1, 2015. Workers must be trained by December 1, 2013

It is not that big of a deal, it just meant to create a standard set of identifying documents for chemicals. It doesn't differ to much from the old style documents that the US already used.
