What is the Most Effective OTC Medicine For A Cold?

Back in the day most OTC cold medicine worked pretty good b/c they all had the good stuff in them back then. Alcohol, whatever is used to make meth apparently, and whatever else it was that made the stuff work. Nowadays my old standbys of Alka Seltzer cold or Nyquil/Dayquil just don't seem to work as well anymore. I used to love Theraflu, but I can't find it anywhere. Have they stopped making it?
What does the OT use for a bad cold and what works best?

Go to the counter and ask for mucinex D. You'll have to show ur driver license but it drys you up really well

Moonshine. You can still get the meth-lite stuff behind the counter.

DayQuil has alcohol in it, if that's what you are wanting.

Zicam Rapidmelts
Mucinex DM works really helps dry me out.

I just want something that works. I've taken 4 Dayquil liquigels so far and I still feel like crap. Yesterday I was on Robitussin and it didn't alleviate any of the symptoms either. shite used to make me feel marginally better when I was younger before they were forced to change formulas I guess.

While you're sick, send your wife/gf over my way and I'll lay some pipe.

Sounds like it may work. What medicine contains Diphenhydramine or do I just ask for that?
Thanks!

Mucinex is good for cough.
For runny nose/congestion, I got the CVS brand "Severe Cold" stuff. Seemed to work well enough.
In case of stuffed-up nose, Afrin is a lifesaver. Nothing is more irritating than not being able to breathe through my nose, which then means I can't smell or taste. Stuff works like a charm, but you're not supposed to use it for more than 3 days.
I also take ColdEeze a lot. Not sure if it REALLY works, but even placebo effect is better than nothing when you get colds. I get them too often...

Diphenhydramine is Benadryl. It's good stuff

I'm a juris doctor and you people are wasting your money with zicam and cold eeze.

Benadryl is the common brand name. Just look on the back of the box for an active ingredient list.

Mucinex D, hands down.
It's OTC, but like others said you have to show your ID to get it.
It dries your nose out in a hurry, and helps with the cough.

Sudafed PE, some warm lemon and honey tea...Lots of water and rest.
I did a lot of the others suggested here before, but a DR told me about this and it cleared my sinuses up fast. I used the warm honey and lemon for soothing and water to loosen the mucus in my chest. Was one of the fastest turnarounds I have had.

Vicks vapo rub is underrated IMO. Rub some of that ish on your chest and under your nose if you're not going out. Clears me up pretty well.
also, make sure you realize that the diphenhydramine will make you drowsy if you get that
