With a few exceptions, most of these guys didn't light up the NFL, or even the college ranks. Food for thought as we obsess over recruiting rankings.

Recruiting rankings weren't close to what they are now. Simms probably got that top spot by his last name

im not saying its foolproof now but I bet the accuracy is a lot better now with more converage, national experts, and the internet becoming what it is now

Those guys were Dinardo recruits that could've brought him back if they hadn't just completely fallen apart in '99.

I don't recall Walter Young. Did he ever make it to campus?

3. Bradie James, 6-3, 225, 4.6, Monroe West Monroe, La.: Florida ("I think I could start next year.") leads slightly over LSU

7. Walter Young, 6-5, 290, 4.9, Purvis, Miss.: Committed to LSU (childhood fave, all favorites had offered) on Aug. 11 over Mississippi, Alabama and Mississippi State. 3.0/16.

Played baseball.

Also what did UGA do to get and keep this guy qualified?

8. Bruce Thornton, RB/DB, 5-11, 182, 4.5, LaGrange, Ga.: Ohio State ("I like coach Cooper. He seems real down-to-earth on the phone and they always have good players like Eddie George.") leads slightly over Georgia, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Florida. Needs to increase 700 SAT to 820.

I see 3 guys who contributed to LSU at all. What am I missing?

That's good, but not exactly lighting it up.

Cole Pittman came in later after going to Texas first, right?

Preseason

Bradie was defensive player of the year postseason. Edwards was a ridiculous specimen. Looked like an NFL player in high school.

It's elite top 50. Was just surprised to see 4 LSU guys in the top 50 going (or committed) to LSU when we sucked so bad.

Also, it's pretty cool looking at this old stuff.

Funny, we have 4 maybe 5 in the top 50 this year.

I always thought Albert Haynesworth was better than Cole Pittman (RIP), but Allen Wallace disagreed.

Nice find, I wish they still had GPA/SAT scores listed.

Ah, right. I saw Evangel/Shreveport and stopped thinking further.

RIP, Cole.

Love how the list grades and tests.

Some pretty embarrassing scores there...
