Saw it. Thought it was really good. Loved the way they rebooted and updated the character for the present day. Is there a plan to make more of these? Love these kinds of movies.

The only thing that they did not quite capture (even though they spoke to it) is that Ryan is not a field agent and doesn't have those skills. He was a bit too Bournesque, especially at the end. I know that they tried to cover this, but still, he was a bit too competent physically, whereas Jack Ryan always got more done with intellect and resolve.

And, yes, I read some of the books - not just the movies.

I didn't think it failed at all. I thought it was good, and that is a genre that is my favorite. It was different, but I liked the way that he was dealing with intelligence issues and was not just in a bunch of car chases the whole time.

Harrison Ford and even Alec Baldwin captured Ryan's hesitancy and analytical nature to everything he did. He was always capable if he had to be, but was the first to use it only as a last resort.

I'm sure the new reboot is geared toward people who haven't read Tom Clancy and probably don't read much of anything else.

We enjoyed it but Harrison Ford will always be Jack Ryan to me.

Like I said, that was the weakness. They tried to capture it - they even talked about it. But, Chris Pine didn't pull it off as well as an older Ford did. Baldwin was meh along those lines, though he did a good job overall.

By the end of the movie, it turned into the classic "chase the bad guy action movie" thing which was not really Jack Ryan's thing, so it veered a bit there. But, overall, I thought it was very good if I didn't spend all of my time comparing it to the earlier books/movies.

Now, the beginning about Baltimore, Marines, helicopter crash, back breaking, CIA is all the same as the originals. It just updates it from Vietnam/Cold War stuff to the War on Terror.

Very good overall, for that genre.

I'm a Tom Clancy book reader so I know this doesn't follow the chronology. I went in expecting this movie to just be okay. It's was terrible. SPOILERS BELOW...

"You're not an analyst anymore, you're operational." terrible and corny.

Refuse to watch. They wanted a Bourne style hero. I hope it was a dismal failure.

I would rather see any of the books than this crap.
