Seems like a foul is being called every 20 seconds. Teams are making it to the bonus with 14 minutes left in each half. It's making the game almost unbearable to watch.

From what I've seen it's mostly an SEC problem. The Big XII and Big Ten are as fun to watch as ever. SEC games are horrendous.

Yep, I don't know what they're ruining worse, baseball or basketball. The basketball rules are ridiculous and it seems like it is making the games longer with all the free throws, which is not conducive to TV broadcast time limitations. I just don't get it.

What's that so called sarcastic remark supposed to mean to me? No one gives a damn if you don't watch him.

I am a pretty casual college basketball fan until March. As a result, I totally forgot that rule changes were even installed this year. I have been watching a game every now and then wondering what the hell was going in until I saw this thread. It is pretty freaking unwatchable.

The announcers at the WV and Kansas game just said they had 50 fouls called in that game LOL

I'm hoping with a season or two players will learn how to adapt and it will improve. They were stuck between a rock and a hardplace, though. Apparently none of yal watched CBB last year, but it was painful to watch. I'm talking offensive basketball that set the sport back decades.

They had to do something to open the game up and create some movement and offense. Hopefully as players learn how to defend in this style it will decrease the fouls.

Like calling a foul every two seconds? You could play your best 5 guys the whole game with all the down time from fouls. Instant offense!

If you've followed high school basketball during the last few years, you would have noticed that the game of basketball has become a free for all. That style of play has carried over to the college game.

The style of basketball folks played when I was in high school was so different. I'm not sure that any of us could have gotten the ball past half court in response to the types of presses that exist today. However, if the rules of the game back then were followed, today - which are the correct rules - we would not have had to worry about presses for very long because every player on the other team would have fouled out by the end of the first quarter.

The rules have not changed. Rather, the rules are now being followed. It should have a trickle down effect to the high school, as well.

People don't like the number of fouls? I don't like missed foul shots. Players need to recognize how many easy points can be scored if they'd just make more of their free throws.

Allowing the game of pushing and shoving to have advanced as far as it did, in the first place, would be comparable to allowing boxers to grab hold of each other an entire round and try to slug it out.

while I agree that the game has gotten away from the original rules , I have been watching college basketball for 30 years and just as recent as last year the game was just fine to me...

New rule changes?
The four new rules relative to defensive contact on an offensive player prohibit:
· A defender keeping a constant hand or forearm on the opponent.
· A defender placing two hands on the opponent.
· A defender constantly jabbing the opponent by extending his arm and striking him with his hand or forearm.
· A defender using an arm-bar to impede the opponent’s progress.

These are old rules that used to be enforced when I played 30+ years ago.

Constant hand checking used to be against the rules, as did "striking your opponent", and "putting both hands on your opponent". Some refs would let you get away with some hand checking, but usually not much.
This all used to be against the rules in High School and College, so this is all retro to me.
