Maybe I'm just getting too damn old.

Speed limit on I-10 in BR is 60.
Speed limit on I-12 all the way to Walker is 60.
Obviously, Interstates are built for high speed travel, limited entrances exits, no left turns, no stopping.

Speed limit on Hwy 16 from DS to Watson is 45.
Lots of businesses, subdivisions etc on this stretch of highway. 45 seems almost too slow, but understandable caution, I guess.

Airline Hwy, from BR to Gonzales, 65 mph. Literally over 1000 businesses, side streets, apartment complexes, traffic lights with left turns, left turn lanes, left cut-throughs with no turn lanes. Littered with crosses and wreaths from marking where people suffered high speed impacts.

ETA: 2 mile stretch in metro Prairieville is 55 mph

I'm a fast driver, but I just can't figure this one out. Am I wrong, or is this just our government asleep at wheel?

Where exactly do you have issue? It's lower in populated areas. I.e. Prairieville and it drops again right by lowes all the way past Leblancs.

I have an issue that it's 65, whereas every other similar area in the area is 55 or less.

I can't think of anywhere in south LA where there is multiple traffic lights and the speed limit is 65.

Damn near scary to make a legal left turn on Airline with people blasting by you at 65. One little slip and somebody dies.

Don't agree?

I wish the interstate was 80mph everywhere. Let Airline be.

I know you are pointing out the inconsistency but, at the end of the day, are you complaining about TOO LITTLE regulation on one street or TOO MUCH regulation on the others?

Lower the speed limit so the BR thugs can't get there as fast to rob the white flight families.

Denham Springs has some really fricked up speed limits.

Like 35 mph on Buddy Ellis Rd, till John L., where the speed limit drops to 25 mph until you reach Walker South.

So many speeding tickets

That certainly exists. I hate that Bluebonnet is 30-40 mph. Very annoying.

I just hate seeing people die on very busy highway that I think is primarily due to a misapplied speed limit.

If you don't feel safe on Airline then stay off of it. There are several other options you can utilize. I don't see why its a problem as it is backed up by traffic most times and nobody is doing over 50. Don't try to regulate everybody else because you don't like it.

Trust me. I'm not for government control. So when I want this... I REALLY believe it.

I did have someone run into the back of me a few years ago on this stretch. I was at a dead stop. That person was going about 65. That person is now marked by a cross.

Most people are forced to drive less than 65 due to traffic lights and speed of traffic.

As you know, speed doesn't kill. Just speed differentials. Ton of differentials on this stretch.

I appreciate your conversation, and input.

Are you very familiar with this stretch of highway?

And yes, our city if FULL of poor drivers. And I don't like them crashing into me or my kids. (at fatal speeds)

Well I somewhat retracted my comment as it might be deemed insensitive and an over generalization.

With that said. I am very aware of this particular stretch of highway and I constantly see terrible driving on it. Street signs won't change anything.

This is just an absurd reaction. It is a genuine concern and the limits do not make sense. Louisiana has the highest insurance rates in the nation, because we have such horrible drivers. I'm betting the slower, more cautious ones are not the ones to blame. Casting a blind eye and telling people to get out of the way isn't any kind of solution..

You may be right that it won't change everything... but I think when people see that sign that says 65 MPH, they're like GOOOOO!!!!

It implies that this highway is just like the interstate, but with a higher speed limit than even the interstates in BR.

It's not at all like an interstate.

Legislatures are not generally self-consistent in lots of things.
