I know we have desean smith an elite talent in his own right, but If jacory came in does he / could he develop the speed to become an elite big WR? Could be a matchup nightmare for corners with his size.

I think JW is faster than DS, so yes, I think they with try to get him on the field at WR (or at least TE, split out).

JW is more of a receiving TE anyway... Especially until he gains some weight

I think washington will grow and fill out into a full fledged TE but Upchurch will be the hybrid guy who could play either and cause matchup problems at both spots.

Kind of like the idea of Washington as a TE and Upchurch as a FB/H-back/TE sort of guy.

Here's why I like him at TE - he's already 220 -

when you break the huddle with him as the third "WR" - he can motion to the slot or flank. Now a linebacker or safety is covering him.

If you make him a big receiver, they'll just assign a tall DB to cover him - as a TE out of 2-back, pro-sets, the defense will be in base a lot, and putting him into a route will draw a mismatch - at the very least he will pull a safety away from a WR in man - in zone, they'll either have to shift the deep zones, or rely on a linebacker (that we get to pick, because we're on offense) to cover him in his zone for shorter routes.

I'm with you, he is a matchup nightmare at wr. Big and long like mike Evans, fast, catches everything.

He could definitely play the WR position, he's that talented.

My head says he should stay at TE & make his mark there because we need production from that position.

But my heart almost wishes he'd play WR because CCC has not targeted TEs in his gameplans like I thought he would've knowing what CCC did with Pitta at the Ravens. I don't want to see his talent wasted with only 10 catches a year.

I'm assuming he was/ is waiting for more of a pass catching capable TE. I think he's starting to get those guys and we will see more TE involvement

They're planning to use him as a TE, but one that can get down the field.

Doesn't his pops post here or someone close to him? Maybe we can find out what the coaches sold him on.

My post came from a conversation with his Dad.
Fwiw, Alabama and Ole Miss absolutely hounded this young man the last three or four weeks before signing day. Kudos to Coach Ensminger for convincing Jacory that he didn't need to go visit those places.

He won the skills competition he was in against.. was it WRs and CBs? He's a great athlete and is an incredible addition to Harris, the WRs,and the RBs of this class.

He's one of my favorite recruits. Hope he gets his chances to show what he can do.

I am sure Coach Henry played a big role in getting him to LSU.

Henry is listed as Jacory's recruiter, and has very strong ties with local schools in SWLA due to his playing days and time coaching at McNeese. Also helps that many of the area coaches in SWLA are former McNeese players too.

Current Westlake head coach Shawn Demeritt, coached at McNeese with Henry around 04-06.
