I have a 1999 Silverado and it shows Not Ready for the I/M Stats for the Cat, EGR and Evap. When I went to get my inspection it of course failed. I've driven 200 miles since the failed inspection and it now shows 2 not read (Cat and Evap). Looks like the Max not ready flags for a 1996-200 is two. Does that mean two means I fail or can I go back and pass the emissions with 2 NR flags?

I have my own scan tool so I can see that I am N/R on two things. Didn't think to scan it before I went for my inspection the first time.

Did you clear a check engine lite in order to get an inspection? (Disconnect the battery)

I have a scan tool and cleared the CEL over a month ago. It was a fuel pressure problem (evap) probably caused by my wife not screwing the gas cap all the way in. Since I reset it I probably put less then 15 miles on the truck before the inspection. It's a 3rd vehicle and rarely gets driven.

When I failed the test, we started driving it every day. 200+ miles and still showing not ready for two of the points.

An evap code had nothing to do with fuel pressure, I don't believe. Those trucks were notorious for evap codes, but it was a poorly designed vent solenoid, which has an updated part from gm. Is the CEL on now?

No CEL on right now. The only thing I have is a not ready status for Evap and Cat. I found this documentation but need help interpreting it.

Max Not Ready Flags:
One NR for MY2001+, two NR for MY1996-2000

That is for the state of LA. Not sure if its current.

If the 200 miles consisted of 20 10 mile trips, that may not be enough for the readiness test to pass.

THE VEHICLE HAS TO GO THROUGH "DRIVE CYCLES" Different manufactures have different dutys you must perform before getting the all clear. You haven't done nearly enough real life driving to clear that code out. It's usually like 200 miles of mix city/hwy driving for Chevys

Thanks Meauxjeaux2... I'll keep driving it and hopefully I can get the ready status for the last two points.

I stopped at the inspection station and asked the guy how many not ready flags I was allowed. He looked at me in a confused look and said he wasn't sure. He's seen not ready flags but never counted them. So I know in LA you can get not ready flags and still pass, just don't know how many and for which points. The place was getting painted so they weren't taking customers at that particular time. I may stop at another inspection station and ask them.

Sounds like you just need to drive it some more. Taje it to work for a few days and then take it on a longer drive on the weekend. I have to do this every year because I reprogram mine alot and it resets the ECM each time.

Just go to a small town or rural area and get an inspection sticker.

I know a few places that take your money and give you a sticker, they don't even check anything.

At the most in rural areas they will check your lights and blinkers, that's about it.

With my early OBD2 truck I used to have, it just had to hit operating temperature.

Just a quick update. I passed my inspection with two not ready flags

My Cat and Evap were listed as NR. It appears that for a vehicle 1996-2000 you can have two NR's and still pass. Vehicles 2001+ only allows one NR. These are rules for LA.

Just updating this in case someone else comes across a similar problem and finds this thread in a google search.
