The premiums are very reasonable.

What about the physician network/where is is accepted?

FWIW I will be likely be living in Baton Rouge.

Any chance I will have to go to Ft. Polk to use it?

Thanks.

Good insurance at a good price, especially on prescritions. The problem you will have in BR is nobody will know what it is. Should be a list of participating providers on the Tricare site.

Really depends on where you are. Live in a an area with plenty of hospitals and a sizeable military population and it's great. Especially with the whole ACA mess.

I'm in the insurance field sorta. I Supply advanced medical supplies to high need individuals. Tricare seems to be good and is easy to work with on my side.

In fact it's great in central Texas with plenty of providers (big military presence). Check provider list and go from there.

They take care of their customers well in my opinion as opposed to United Healthcare. United sucks balls and doesn't want to pay for anything.

I had it and it was awesome.

If I remained eligible for it - I would be on it like...like something that is on something else very thoroughly.

I'm ineligible because I'm eligible for FEHB (which is more expensive and perhaps as good - BC/BS is the carrier).

Were you able to use it in Louisiana fairly easily?

Also, I'm in the Army Reserve for at least 7 more years.

I'd be curious to know what you thought of your overall experience; thumbs up?

With all of this ACA nonsense going on I would try to stay with a private insurer at all costs. Avoid government insurance policies even if they are ones you have earned with your efforts

Although I have heard great things. Just about anywhwere will take tricare.

I have it in BR. Not too much of a problem finding Drs. There have been a few screw ups with going to a new Dr or the ER because they didn't know what it was, which was a pain in the arse to sort out. Definitely worth it though.

I was told at first the ACA would all but destroy the Reserve plans.

However, it now appears that TRICARE will weather the storm, and all plans provide the infamous "minimum essential coverage."

I guess we'll all see over the next year.

If it does you will see a huge drop in participation in the reserve component. It's pretty much the biggest incentive to being a reservist.

There was a little more care taken in picking providers, but I don't recall any significant issues - I was with them for nearly 2 years, and then Tricare Standard for another year and a half, before coming on board with SSA.

I don't know about BR, but in the New Orleans area it is accepted most places. I use Ochsner with it and have never had a problem. Like stated earlier, the prescriptions are cheap. Even better if you have the delivered through Tricare. For $200 per month for family, it is well worth it.

If a provider questions it, just tell them it's equivalent to TRICARE srandard. As another poster said, I do reserves for the medical and eventual retirement. I paid a total of ~$500 for 2 shoulder surgeries that cost ~$50000

Oschner is a fully contracted TriCare entity and they have the big place on Summa Ave here in Baton Rouge that has about everything.
