After a scary incident yesterday, I need to get my fiance something to defend herself or at least feel a little safer.

That being said, are there any pepper spray or similar products that the OT would suggest? I am sure there are different types of ingredients, etc. The only brand I know of is "Mace." Any other brands that people can suggest and any anecdotal evidence would be appreciated. I was thinking just a key chain version would work best so she could never forget it.

TIA

I might be able to convince her to do that in the future, but I need something more immediate.

Get a taser. Would you rather be pepper-sprayed or tased?

I have my wife carry this Pepper spray from amazon.

Not sure how well it works because I didn't have her test it on me.

Every person who has experienced both would immediately respond they would rather be tased than sprayed. The pain ends as soon as the taser quits. Spray stays with you for days.

Go to any police supply store and ask for OC spray if that's the route you want to go. Same stuff they issue to LEOs.

I keep a bottle of this by my front door. If a urbanite knocks on my door trying to sell me cleaning solution I always have my hand on it out of view. Give me just enough time to shut the door and get some real self defense weapons.

Pepper spray seems like if would be more effective against multiple threats. Bear mace would be my choice if I wanted to clear out the general area.

While leaving, she noticed a car in the parking garage of the Galleria in Houston. She thought he was waiting for her spot, but she then noticed the same car behind her a few blocks later. She made a few quick turns without signalling but he kept following. She called me when she got to the apartment and the car was following her up the parking garage. She went all the way to the top (its open air with people usually around) and parked real quick in a handicap spot right when I got to the top and I told her to run inside and lock the door. The car pulled all the way behind her car, the guy saw me and then turned real quick and went back down. I called security and told them whats up and I was watching from the roof to let the security them know which car he was in. They tried to stop him but another car had just left the gate so it was open and he shot passed the security guard.

It was a newer model silver 4-door sedan BMW, and the guy was light-skinned, possibly Asian male. I called the mall security and told them to be on the lookout, and I have the security at the apartment keeping an eye open today.

Anybody half skilled in fighting could easily disarm someone with a collapsible baton and use it against her.

If she isn't getting a conceal carry or can't carry it because of her profession, then Mace/pepper spray is probably good enough for her to get away.

.40 JHP to the face is your best bet.

But if you're that much in a hurry just get whatever. Pretty much any pepper spray will work. If you want something with a ton of pain find some 20%OC with 4%MC (dunno if that's available to civilians or not). Hell you could spray WD40 into the face of an attacker and they'll be disoriented enough to get away.

Looks like she was aware. Awareness is your best self defense. probably doesn't hurt to have her keep a firearm in the vehicle. Not sure if Texas allows that, but LA does.

I didn't think about that. I may be able to run over there real quick at lunch today.

She is still freaked out today, so I really want to get her this ASAP.

ETA: there is a police supply store 10 minutes from work. They have stun guns and pepper spray so I might get both for her.

Thanks again for everyone's advice
