Did anybody question Marino's legacy? Or even mention it?

Or was it invented by ESPN to feed their ravenous monster of radio and TV talk shows?

you never talked to your family members or friends about football before the internet? This talk has always existed.

Of course it was discussed.

We didn't have 24/7 NFL Network, 24/7 debate on ESPN, and countless 24/7 radio shows. So it didn't feel like it was the most important aspect of Marino's career.

The problem now is that there's not much more to talk about with so many hours to fill, so you've been drilled into believing that Peyton's legacy is important to everyone and that he had to win this game to be the GOAT.

It started in the 80s but social media and ESPN have made it so much worse in the last several years.

Its just filler for slow sports talk days.

Manning is a first ballot HOF'er without question. Thats all that really matters.

I think people have been questioning Marino's legacy since the late 90s.

Was a great QB. Not enamored with him as a TV personality.

If you specifically mean Marino, it was always understood that he had virtually no running game. Same with Elway until he got Davis. The discussion was never framed as "legacy" -- which sounds like something Queen Victoria would have.

I think more matters. Championships, being considered the GOAT, being a clutch player... those things matter

I'd bet that Peyton would freely give away his 5000+ yards, 55 TD season for more Super Bowl wins.

Sorry to disappoint, but Manning is a first ballot HOF'r hands down. No question. None.

Has he shite the bed in the postseason? Yeah, pretty much, but it's unimportant as far as HOF.

Could Peyton have "solidified" his "legacy" by winning more SBs, of course. No doubt about it.

It doesn't change his career accomplishments though.

No shite Captain Obvious. Why would that disappoint me?

It absolutely does. He could've been a 2-time Super Bowl MVP. 2 is different than 1.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is. Manning's a great great quarterback and also an enormous choke artist in the postseason. That's an indisputable fact. That will be his legacy.

Uh...yeah, they did. ESPN was around when he retired in 2000. His legacy was immediately discussed by the talking heads.
