Sources w/the @SL_Skeeters tell me that Tracy McGrady is eyeing pro baseball as a pitcher. CLocked at 91 MPH. Working out for 2 months.—

I'm rooting for him.

But he probably gets injured soon.

Gonna be mighty tough to pitch when you have constant back spasms

Could come in for relief or closer. But your right, I don't think his back could handle the grind of a starter

That would be an incredible story. Did he play baseball in high school?

He's s 6'8 mega athlete. Not too surprising. Although a 91 mph heater ain't nothing, especially when he won't have the seasoning of any other high school prospect. This feels like novelty at best. Like someone said, he'll get hurt soon enough...

being 34 is not good for someone trying to pitch in the mlb with a 91 mph fastball. it's not like he's going to gain speed or learn a sick offspeed pitch easily.

Being 6'8 and as good an athlete as he is, he could definitely add some miles to his fastball with good coaching.
But yea, he is a little old to be learning how to pitch.

He bought a MiLB team, right? Sounds like the beginning of a novelty act/promotion

Didn't want to start a new thread. Tracy officially announced he wants to play for the Sugarland Skeeters today.

quote:

SUGAR LAND, TX – Former Houston Rocket and NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady confirmed today his intention to pursue a pitching career with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Below is a statement from the Skeeters club:

“Tracy McGrady is one of the most elite athletes of this era and we appreciate his interest in pursuing a life-long dream with the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Atlantic League. While the Atlantic League is considered the highest level of baseball outside of Major League Baseball, McGrady has demonstrated skill, determination and diligence during his training program at Constellation Field. We look forward to monitoring his progress.”
