Me and my wife started watching season 1 few days ago and it's a damn good show. It's probably one of the best family dramas I've come across since the Sopranos. Very solid story line and a home run cast in my opinion. Very raw and gritty show.

We haven't got there. On episode 7. It's rare my wife actually likes a show I like. Sin Feet Under,Sopranos, and this are the only shows she's watched with me.

First off, Voight is absolutely money in this series. He was made for a role like this. He was great in the first half of the season but his character got a little pathetic at the end of the season with his drama with Ray and seeking forgiveness that wasn't going to happen.

Second, it's funny as hell how Rays wife is such a weak woman and lets ray walk all over her and pleading with him for the longest time to not keep secrets. And then when she found out what Ray pretty much does for a living, she was like oh ok and went all in and thinking nothing of her kids who could get hurt thanks to Ray's lifestyle. Shitty mother.

Third, I can tolerate a little anti-hero show but there are some real piece of shite human beings on this show, particularly with the protagonists. They kill, rob, frame and assualt people when it's needed for their own gain. The episode where they kept a priest severely injured from a gunshot wound captive until he said a sorry and ray lost his cool and killed him. Then the brothers and Ray's wife was fine with it. Granted he was a piece of shite and a rapist, but that said it all to how low they're willing to go.

Now, I know that's how it works in the world/underworld they live in but that's precisely why I probably will not be watching this show much in the future. But it's still a good show and I would reccomend it if you loved something like the sopranos.

Wow, some people take tv shows wayyy too seriously. I mean come on man, it's a piece of fiction. A very well written, cast, budgeted, directed, produced... Piece of fiction. Everything Ray does is justified in my opinion. If I like a show chances are I will buy into whoever the main character is. I find myself watching good shows like this from the POV of that character. IMO it's a great way to watch real good tv. I have sided with the actions of such people as...

Tony Soprano
Ray Donavan
Dexter Morgan
Eric Northman
Etc.

You obviously don't read or frequent this board much.

We take analysis here seriously and go deep into thought.

quote:

Everything Ray does is justified

Ray and his employees themselves admit that everything they do is a felony worthy of hundreds of years in prison.

If I'm not mistaken, The writers say Ray commits about 6-8 serious felonies per episode.

Ok, so what. It's FICTION.

Put yourself in his shoes.

Come on down off your high horse and imagine yourself as Ray. Now force yourself to make the same decisions he does.

You will be able to enjoy the show much more.

I do frequent this board and understand analysis. You took it way beyond analysis of a show. You seem to not be able to let go of reality for an hour and enjoy a show because there are bad guys in it. God forbid.
