Currently having Mike Epps breakdown the Super Bowl. Apparently the Seahawks cornerbacks is no joke, so good to know.
Glad this snow day has helped me gain some new knowledge.

Haven't watched espn for anything other than the occasional CFB game in years. I can honestly say that my life is slightly better because of it.

i think i remember us having this exact same convo almost exactly a year ago

They exclusively cater to the black, hip hop demographic. They were on location in New York this week and the only people that came to watch the taping of the show were young black males. There were a few white kids with flat bills peppered in there as well. All they do is have hip hop artist and black actors come on the show and "break down" game film. It's quite sad.

When they added stephen a smith to the full time lineup and began trying to cater to a more urban demographic it became much, much worse than before. Now the talking points are even more mundane and simplistic than ever to the point where I can't even watch/listen to it

I was out of a job for 3 months in 2010. I watched this shite. It's as bad as soaps. The d list of sports.

yeah when i quit my job and started up my own firm almost a year ago i started watching these shows for the first time in years and i had been totally ignorant that the morning programming was basically 100% targeted at the urban audience
when they killed numbers never lie and did the same i had to keep chuckling

I've only seen clips of First Take and they all made me want to cancel cable forever.

numbers never lie
the concept initially was to discuss advanced stats in a sterile/safe setting
then they ditched the football outsiders guy with a pony tale b/c he wasn't tv enough
then they just started doing stupid debates with numbers as the basis
then they basically just turned it into "2 black hosts who will randomly bring up numbers to fit into the same 5 arguments of that day"

quote:yeah, I remember it starting off as more of a panel of people. It was a pretty interesting concept. But I guess now if a show isn't immediately successful they ditch it for their bread and butter LCD debate show. "ah let me throw in a random richard sherman stat so we can stay true to the name of the show"

the exec who created/pushed the whole "LCD debate show" format just left to run the Today show. curious what happens with the Today show now. how will ESPN ever fill that void, too?

#embracedebate
I saw an ESPN ombusdman piece one time claim that debate is an integral part of sports. They're fricking ridiculous.
