quick question for the OT:

how many kegs would you buy for a party that was going to have anywheres from 50-120 people?? is there a person/keg ratio that will land me somewheres in the right ballpark?? I'm thinking I'm going to need at least two or three to have enough

TIA

3. better to not finish all 3 than to be 3/4 a keg short.

You also have to consider the crowd. If it's 50% ladies or more, they won't put much of a dent in the kegs and will likely drink liquor more than beer, which you may also consider catering to by either buying some various liquors and sodas, or making a bulk batch of cheap party drink of some sort in a larger container.

If it's a sausage fest the first keg will go at a slow pace as people arrive, the second keg will go quickly, and the 3rd at a pace in between the first 2 until the party is over. Drink the rest of the 3rd keg the next day and have a bring-your-own-food-to-grill hang out day.

That's a huge gap...will there be hard liquors? what's the guy/girl ratio?

There's 125-135 16oz pours in a keg (when you figure in the head). If you guess the average person will drink 5 beers...that's just over 25 people per keg.

If you have 120 people 3 kegs will get you about 4 12oz beers per person

If you think most everyone that shows up, will stay the entire time and go hard in the paint, go with 4.

ETA: That really is a wide range of a headcount. I would play the average and roll with 3. If people can't give you a solid yes less than a week before a daiper party, frick em.

damn... sounds like I'm gonna have to go with 4...

the crowd will be all the guys I work with (most of whom are alcoholics ), family, and friends... I might just do three kegs and bank on making a beer run to the store that's only 2 minutes from where the party is

I thought about doing that too... it sucks being a nice guy when throwing a party, it's hard to please everyone

You're looking at between $70-90 for a keg. At least that's what it was last time I bought one

Depends on what you get. The domestic light beers range $60-70/keg, deposit for a tap (which you'll get back upon return is usually about $40. If you or your friends don't already have any shells, those each have a depsoit as well. Just call around to local stores to see who has the best deals going on.
