Also interesting: both next-gen versions look better than last year's PC version in some respects. A couple of weeks ago, when we ran that IGN video detailing the new features in the Definitive Edition, a bunch of readers were quick to say "So, it's basically just the PC version on ultra settings, ported to consoles." Ah, but that's not the case.

The definitive edition also has much more high-contrast, dramatic lighting, and everything looks somehow heightened—every time I'd switch back to see a similar scene on PC things would look flat and less active

And both versions look better than the PC version.

The PS4 sadly doesn't offer any app like FRAPS to tell me what frame rate my games are running, and my retail PS4 has copy protection so I can't capture video on my own. But over the last few years I've become something of a frame-rate obsessive, and I was all but certain that the game was running at 60fps, or at least close to it. 910P

Shortly thereafter, the Xbox One version was halfway downloaded, enough to fire up the game and start comparing the two. I started it and… wait a minute. It still looked great, still had all the visual bells and whistles I'd seen on the PS4 version… but it was not running at 60fps. It was noticeably more sluggish, closer to 30fps.

Just another example of developers catering to the lowest common denominator

I was a little surprised about this because I figured they would port the pc version but they took time to keep working on it. I'm sure someone will turn this into a console vs pc debate but what it really means is that they tried to improve the game instead of just port it.

As for the frame rate, I read it isn't a locked 30 for xbone, just fluctuates between 30-45. 60 fps is better for sure but for a game like this 30 will be enough, especially for most gamers that are not used to 60 fps

eta: If you didn't play this game last year then go ahead and get this version. This game got lost in the shuffle but it was fun and since there aren't many good games out for next gen yet this is a good chance for it so stick out.

Yeah I read about this the other day, PS4 is more powerful what do people expect? PS4 version averages 60FPS, XB1 averages 30FPS.

Insiders just came out and said the same thing a few days ago about Watch_Dogs as well, Watch Dogs will run at 60FPS on PS4, 30FPS on XB1 on average.

Going to be the norm.

So they are saying a game reworked a year later for upgraded hardware looks better?

This isn't shocking or news and goes to show that the old console hardware was in fact holding back multi platform developers. As things get better on the new gen it will also be better for PC.

Also, I imagine the old TR game played on 1440p on PC would crush the new PS4 and Xbone versions.

I don't believe it, if you turn up all the eye candy @ 1440.

I'll purchase the PS4 version for review, but this seems like bullshite.

Just finished reinstalling Tomb Raider on the PC. The video and screenshots that article uses are shtt. They aren't even at maxed out settings, what fckking BS.

Will still go purchase the PS4 version and play to compare. I really enjoyed the title and wouldn't mind doing another play through. It will give me a reason to turn on my PS4.

Similar yes, if you've played Uncharted you may want to skip it, doesn't come close to comparing but it's not a bad game overall.

It will leave you thinking meh half assed Uncharted but ND spoils us.
