What are the chances he pleads down at some point this weekend? I haven't followed much of the action lately, but I have to assume the feds have his balls in a vice.
And please don't start with any racist or anti N.O. shite please.

Less likely than a few weeks ago. I do know that some Assistant U.S. Attorneys' assholes are really tight right now. They've been increasing the pressure on some of their witnesses like you wouldn't believe.
I'm in a quandary. I think Nagin should be convicted, but, on the other hand, I'd love to see some of these careerist a-hole prosecutors fall flat on their faces.

I still can't believe how well Morial covered his tracks. He was a seriously shady character and he never got busted.

Agreed. Seems so many in his inner circle and related friends got busted, but he got away. And to top if off, he has his nice position with the Urban League.

There's a local ice cream company that makes a Chocolate City flavor
Really good ice cream too.

He never really put money directly in his own pocket. That's not what he was about. It was about power gained through "favor" to others. Nothing criminal to really to hang on him, believe it or not.

I find it hard to believe that Marc Morials wasn't corrupt. I always felt that he was a beneficiary of the statute of limitations running out.

Okay, i get you not liking assholes, but why would you have a problem with AUSA's making a career out of being a prosecutor?
Are you talking about any individual prosecutors on this case specifically?

If there are many (any?) black people on his jury you know what the verdict will be, why bother?

I wasn't really using the term "careerist" to mean simply making a career out of working as a prosecutor. I meant:
the policy or practice of advancing one's career often at the cost of one's integrity
LINK
Some of these guys have the unfortunate tendency to use their power to bully citizens who are pretty tangential to the "investigation". They ambition outweighs sometimes their integrity. And, yes, I referring to the experiences of a particular witness in mind in this case and, no, obviously I can't identify him/her.

Nagin ain't O.J. I don't think that will be a big deal.

I dont believe the motivation to sacrifice intergrity is about career advancement in that office. There's just a culture of win at all costs that's pervasive with most attornies, quite frankly, and in the office of the prosecution there is ample opportunity to abuse their abundant power.
Specifically, I think things have improved in the wake of the Pericone/Mann/Letten scandal, but I'm sure the use of "strong arm tactics" will still be around. Hopefully less so.

Could be.

I'm staying in the Hilton Riverside right now and had a chocolate chip cookie in the executive lounge earlier.
