Saw ambulance and firefighters using the saws on a SUV flipped in the ditch on I-12E between Airline and Sherwood, just got a text that I-10W is closed at College due to a wreck, also I-10W is blocked in Crowley due to a pileup.

The insanity has started, as I feared it would. Buckle up and be safe on the highways folks.

That's terrible to hear on a Friday morning.

From a half inch of snow? Is this real life?

To give BR a little bit of slack, it's mostly sleet

At least there won't be many people on the roads. I have to cross the new bridge in 2 hours

I just drove out of BR and there is definitely some ice on the interstates, and naturally some of our village idiots were still playing with their phones while going entirely too fast for the conditions.

I think it's more of an issue of black ice, UH. Most places in SELA have had more freezing rain/sleet instead of snow for most of the night & morning.

I-10 East now closed on the new bridge due to an accident.

Don't forget bridges. Those overpasses are a big part of the problem.

Still, it's just crazy to see/hear/read people this freaked when you're used to having school/class in 5 inches of snow.

So different.

Just drove home from work and only hit ice at Comite bridge on Greenwell Springs rd. Ice was really just starting to skin over at the plant.
We had snow/sleet mix since about 12:30 there, but the freeze is supposed to last until about 9am or so.
The reason something like this has more of an effect here is for 2 reasons. First we just aren't used to it, and two we don't normally have snow/ice rated tires.

It is, but also, they're just starting to treat the roadways. This far south, they don't do all of the pre-treating since there's really no call for it most of the time. Plus, the population is so large in SELA, they really need to take precautions by closing schools & government to keep people off the roads.

I think the wrecks at 4 am are showing why places close when there is a threat of ice in S. La. Imagine a packed rush hour. I still haven't read or seen people freaked out though

It was pretty slippery on the Oneil overpass.

Saw one truck on airline with a fender flare barely hanging on. Looked like he just hit something.

I-10 westbound through lafayette (exit 101) is backed up because of an accident on the overpass.

Just got back from my morning run - there are two wooden type bridges over the lakes in our subdivision (se/br) - both have at least 1/4 ice from the sleet - the geese are happy - they are doing some squawking.

I took Airline from Gonzales to Exxon and the overpass @Florida Blvd was shut down. Saw an upside down SUV at the top of it.

Considering how rain alone causes people to drive like even bigger idiots in BR, yes it most certainly is.

I12 W has an accident on the amite bridge, traffic backed all the way to Juban. It's not even rush hour yet, and DOT website is reporting over 20 wrecks already.

For fricks sake people...
