Any suggestions for dog shoes?

My older dog has some back problems, and it's starting to get more difficult for him to walk on and get up from the hardwood without slipping on his hind legs.
Has anyone used low profile dog shoes that worked? We got him some years ago when he went to parents' house so he wouldn't mark up their floor, but they were clunky and made him walk like an idiot. I really just need something to increase the grip on his pads.
What have you used? What worked or didn't work?

I can't imagine anything being better than his own paws...maybe get some spiked shoes though

Dog Shoes
I got these for my dog because he slides all over my hardwoods and he had a cut on his pad that was causing him to limp. Unfortunately the ones I ordered were too big for him so I never had a good chance to test them out, but the reviews seem pretty well and they seemed like they'd stay on good if they fit properly.
I think the walking like an idiot part is going to happen no matter what type you end up getting for him until he's comfortable with them. My dog let me put them on with no problems and the few steps he took were pretty hilarious to watch.

Those are the exact ones we got him a while back.
They did work, but I felt bad for him, especially when I laughed hysterically at his movements.
My poor guy is laying halfway out of the bedroom, front feet on the wood, rest on the carpet, whining.
