What’s Up Going Into The Offseason?: LSU would’ve been in the discussion for preseason No. 1 if everyone came back, but it’s LSU, so a slew of key parts are off to the NFL including the fantastic receiving tandem of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. With Zach Mettenberger done, Anthony Jennings has to build off his experience at the end of the year to hope for some young targets to step up and shine, led by Travin Dural on the outside. Jeremy Hill is going to be starting for some NFL team next year, but Kenny Hilliard and Terrence Magee can help make the rushing rotation rock behind a line that should be among the nation’s best with four starters are back. LT La’el Collins should’ve left early, and didn’t, and guard Vadal Alexander is terrific. However, Trai Turner took off.

West:
1. BAMA
2. LSU
3. Auburn
4. Texas A&M
5. MSU
6. Ole Miss
7. Arky

East:
1. South Carolina
2. UGA
3. Florida
4. Mizzou
5. Vandy
6. UT
7. Kentucky

EAST

WEST

Fringe Top 25 team IMO. I'm prepared for a let down. No way we finish ahead of Auburn.

Bama won't be #1. They have won the SEC West only 3 times (2008, 2009, 2012) since Saban got there. They won't win it next year.

Auburn should be #1.

The west this year is wide open, I am not sure Bama will win it. To many good teams in the west, the East is still pretty week.

Yeah, isn't almost everyone coming back for them minus Mason and Robinson?

Bama should win the west with Coker transferring in. Overall solid rankings. Being 2nd in the west equals a likely top 10 team and LSU fans should take that and be happy imo.

Losing Mason will be huge for Auburn and replacing a LT like Robinson won't be an easy task either.

Mason

I think losing him is a bigger deal than losing the Robinson. Mason did tons for that team. But having a QB coming back that already knows the system would be the biggest reason I'd think they should be first in the West.

I really don't get all the Auburn love. What they did this year was fantastic, but they needed two of the most incredible finishes in Auburn football history in back to back games to get to where they were. They struggled with Wazzou and Miss. State and could have easily lost to Texas A&M and we blew them away. They are an improved team, no doubt, and could contend for the West title, but they could just as easily go 7-5, and could have easily gone 7-5 this year. Just sayin. I would put Auburn in the Texas A&M category (and maybe throw Ole Miss in there), just below Bama/LSU, but with a chance to win the West. I think Bama and LSU at 1 and 2 makes the most sense.

Also, I wouldn't be totally shocked if Miss. State was a threat in the West this year too. They play consistently well on defense. If Dak can take command of the offense next year, they will surprise some people and maybe have a breakout year.

I don't think Alabama deserves the pick to win it...

they lost the last two games of their season for goodness sakes, making a lot of coaching changes, -

Losing McCarron and other senior leadership...Mosley gone is huge also

Maybe Ole Miss will surprise people this year?

But between LSU, AU and Alabama, it's going to be a toss up.

The margins appear to be shrinking in the West. Going to be very hard to take an undefeated record to Atlanta.

At least they were smart enough to put us over Auburn.

That team just puts out thousand yard backs so it's no problem to lose Mason. Now Marshall has a whole offseason to actually get acclimated to the scheme instead of 3 weeks and then learning on the fly. If they get any sort of defense and a decent passing game, they just might win it all.

Thing is, Ole Miss only lost Scott and Moncrief (looking to pick up Scarbrough). MSU will have Dak for a full season. Our defense gets better with our whole squad except for DT with a year of experience. Bama is Bama except the QB, OL and secondary is questionable again. TAMU loses 4 top players, but the offense is run by Sumlin, so prepare for big numbers again.

All in all, the west is a crapshoot to predict.

The East is easy though. UGA returns everybody but Murray really and picks up the next Gurly/Marshall with Chubb/Michel. That's your winner. USCe will make a push, but that defense is going to take a major step back. The offense loses clutch Shaw, but return virtually everything else good about that side.

no it won't. Auburn has the RB thing down packed.

1000 yard rushers since 09 (MALZAHN ERA)

2013
Tre Mason 317 1816 5.7 23
Nick Marshall 172 1068 6.2 12

2012
Tre Mason 171 1002 5.9 8

2011
Michael Dyer 242 1242 5.1 10

2010
Cam Newton 264 1473 5.6 20
Michael Dyer 182 1093 6.0 5

2009
Ben Tate 263 1362 5.2 10

This is every year they had Gus except in 2012 (their numbers fell off drastically BTW)

They will be fine without Mason.

- They will still have an 800-1000 yard rusher in Marshall
- One of their backs will go over 1000
- At least two others will be over 500

These guys are loaded again next year.
