What are the odds of this becoming a reality in the next 40 years or so?

Theres plenty of great spots to utilize in the surrounding mountains.

I bet the USOC will go with Miami instead.

Baton Rouge will be another top choice because it has Tiger Stadium.

And it's been 80+ for like two weeks. Now that's unusual, but still...

50-63 is different than 80.

80 is beach weather

I understand the reaction, which is why the question was posed. It would be somewhat unconventional.

I went skiing the last time I went to the LA area and it was warm in the city.

I suspect people don't realize how much the area has to offer in terms of winter sports.

The mountains aren't actually in Sochi, either.

No. The mountains by L.A. have very unreliable snowpack. They can get 300" one year and 40" the next. It is not typically cold enough (nor is there enough water) to make snow. Mt. Baldy is the shite though.

This is probably true, but the mountains there are not even close to Olympic in terms of quality or quantity. The mountains closest to LA have no access, and Big Bear just does not have enough mountain/hotels/snow to host something like that. X Games would even be too much (again, assuming they even have good snow). Mammoth is 4 hours away.

they could have that shite in North Carolina right now.

Either way, wouldn't it make more sense for somewhere like Denver, Pittsburgh, or the like to host if the US wants to submit a bid?

Denver could put an Olympic Tax on pot sales.

Yes, for a warm weather city, Albuquerque would provide much better access to winter sports than L.A.
