I don't think it's that bad of a hire. He's a winner and I think that's better than getting a hot name assistant who has no idea how to build a program

I intend to do a MSB thread requesting feedback from Lousianna people re: the rebuilding of Tulane. I know they were pretty down in the dump as recently as 2011 but made some changes an became bowl eligible this year. I'm interested in how they turned their program around and whether UAB could replicate

Jacksonville State HC and was a great high school coach at Prattville. His connections should really help him in recruiting there

They should have hired Rush Propst

That was talked about years ago, but iirc Propst isn't highly thought of anymore

Probably would still be a hell of a recruiter in Alabama and the south if everyone forgave him. I saw the e60 story on him. He turned another failing HS program around in GA.

Clark also took Jacksonville State to the FCS quarterfinals in his first year. He also had some really good defenses at South Alabama.

Sorry, don't know anything about him. Just know Propst from 2-a-days. Was he the HC or DC at USA?

Clark was the coach at Prattville when they beat Hoover in the state finals in the second season of 2-a-days. He left PHS to be the DC at USA when they first started their program. He was hired by Jacksonville State (he went to college there). Took them to an 11-4 season and went to the quarterfinals in his only season there. They had a chance to win the quarterfinal game until the QB got hurt around halftime.

But I did know him pretty well while he was there.
