So I rigged up a jerk rig but I am not sure I did it correctly.

I have a simple 6 lb mushroom anchor then 2 ft of bungee cord, then 60 ft of paracord with the first decoy tied on to a short loop extension 10 feet from the anchor. After that 5 more decoys all tied on about 3 ft apart on short 10" loops from the main line.

when I move the rig though the lead line comes out of the water between the last decoy and me and the first decoy near the anchor wants to go under the water when I apply enough force to move the decoys closest to me.

What did I do wrong?

The line coming up happens. You can weigh it down with a peice of PVC and a ring bracket near the blind if you want but I don't think it makes a huge difference.

As far as the first decoy going under, you might have made the line tied to it too short. It should be several inches long.

But your biggest mistake was making one when you can get one like this for $15.

Already had all the stuff to make it and I needed it the next morning.

Closest Academy (or any other outdoor store for that matter) is 45 min away also.

I would also add that you have too many decoys on it. Even though there are a lot of clips I usually only run 2 decoys on my line. 5 ducks in a perfect row moving in unison does not look natural IMO.

I thought that too even though I used all teal on the cord and placed it parallel to the grass line.

Game Winner stuff is the shiz. How can one company make so much stuff? Clothes, decoys, deer stands. All at Academy.

I use three teal. Any more than three decoys and it just doesn't look right.

I agree with most comments, use 2-3 decoys unless you have a REALLY long jerk string and can put two groups of 2-3 decoys with a large space in between them.

I use a marsh anchor (i.e. a stainless steel pole shoved in the ground) and that keeps the line up high enough that the decoy closest to the anchor doesn't try to go under water. Otherwise, figure out some way to have the line coming up high right after the anchor if it bugs you. I don't think it matters to be honest. Ducks go underwater all the time, and the most important thing is the ripples on the water.

i bent a long piece of metal rod into a U and pushed it down into the mud near the blind to keep the string under water but allow it to move easily

make sure you push it down deep bc the string will constantly be pulling up on it to a degree

We welded one chain link to the top of a 5 ft. piece of rebar, put that right in front of the blind to hold the line underwater.

Game Winner is just the Academy generic brand right? I have never seen it anywhere else.

I've bought plenty of that stuff and it seems to hold up well.

if you are going to use a weight just use one decoy and run th line through the weight to the decoy. This makes the decoy bob like a feeder.

Put some duck butts next to it.

If it is too shallow to do that you should be using a stake, they are lighter and easier to pack.

I like these quiver magnets as well to get movement on the water. i think they can be found for cheaper though.
