I anticipate getting one or the other in the upcoming months......for those of you that have either, can you provide your thoughts on each....pros and cons?

We had a Talon on our boat. Didn't care for it at all. If fishing on a hard bottom, works fine. But stick it in a mud or soft bottom, had trouble with it coming up. And with any current, made it worse. Replaced with the Blade Power Pole and have not had any problems.

If it needs to be taken off and on then talon is your best option. If not, the power pole is far superior in function.

Doesn't the Talon shoot straight down, while the Power Pole articulates out?

Yes, its a hydraulic that extends back to go down vs the straight down electric talon.

Both are very good products, and you'll probably be happy with either. I have a Talon. Both have their pros and cons. The pros of the Talon is that it's much easier to install/remove, cheaper, doesn't take up as much room in your battery compartment, can be deployed in tighter quarters, and is electric. The pros of the PP are: better looking, quieter deploying, quieter ride, and can be lowered to stay out of the way of the guy in the back of the boat when in deep water. Some say that PP will hold you better because of the angle of the spike, but I've never had an issue with my Talon not holding me in place even in the worst of conditions. Never had a problem with my Talon not deploying or retracting either. Talon now has a 12 foot model, which would be nice. Price and ease of install were the biggest factors with me choosing that Talon.

Talons aren't worth a shite when compared to a power pole.

I feel like I'm always in a spot where I need another foot from mine but it ain't happening.

Eta: but it's really fun anchoring on the beach during the summer and rippin lips out of the surf. Can't.Wait.

Same when comparing similar models. PP has a 10' model (which look ridiculous on the back of a bass boat) Talon now has a 12' model. The guy I fish a lot of tournaments with has a PP. It does it's job just as good as a Talon, but no better.

FYI... My input is from a freshwater perspective. Salt may be different.

I have a buddy that has two 8' pp.'s and to be honest, I was a little disappointed in how it held in windy and slightly rough conditions. It almost seemed like the longer poles were inclined to bend more......like once the boat started swaying, it's momentum made the poles not hold. Maybe it would be the same with longer talons in the same conditions.

I have a couple friends who have the talon. We always end up jumping up and down on the back of the boat trying to get the damn thing to come back up

Very common with talons. Not with power poles. I would own hydraulic power over electric anyday for that purpose.

I have a talon on a 23 ft bay boat. I like it, but I like the power pole more. Power poles hold on reefs better, and they are down and out of the way when you're anchored. Get the 10 foot power pole.
