I'm no NBA scout, but I've just started paying attention to this season's college ball and I'm not yet convinced there are any "can't misses" among this class.

Am I just being too critical? Am I unrealistic? Maybe we see the real deals closer to tourney time.

With 2 key guys likely out for the season, another solid bench guy out with cartilage issues in his knee, in the midst of a 7 game losing streak and only having a draft pick in the top 5, what is the alternative that best suits this team?

Gimme Julius Randle. He'll be a double double machine.

No, we need a 5 or a 3 (but a 5 first).

Randle is neither of those.

Oh I get all that, I'm just remarking on all the hype about this class. I don't see any franchise changing player yet.

We don't need that, we already have that. However, there are a bunch of guys that can positively contribute to a team like ours right away.

I guess at this point virtually any player with a pulse has a chance to contribute.

Ford recently stated coming into the year the class was a 10. It's probably an 8 right now with a chance to move back up to a 10.

Pretty accurate statement if you ask me. I might give it currently a 7.

The best players are freshman who had huge expectations. They have had their shining moments but people were expecting the best freshman ever to play.

Wiggins Parker and randle are 18.

Embiid is a 19 yo frosh.

Exum is 18 and plays in Australia.

Those 5 are the "can't miss" guys everyone is drooling over. I think the 4 college guys are franchise changing players; I have not seen exum yet.

Then there are a class of players who are projected to be solid nba starters. Smart, Gordon, Saric etc.

If by some miracle the Pels lucked into wiggins, Parker or embiid, then they would start from day 1 and people would be talking about us being the best young roster in the league

Play AD ~38 minutes per game (which we've been doing), running the offense through him, and heading into 2015 with a player that is a better defensive version of '09 Bosh.

What you're really comparing is top 5 in 2014 or 11-16 in 2015. There's absolutely no doubt that keeping this year's pick is the preference to not keeping it at this point. I'd just rather win 32 games and end up #10 than win 26 games and end up #6. If we're not keeping our pick those extra wins would make the losing more tolerable and hopefully would be signs of positive things for the future, like AD beasting or Rivers/Miller/Withey stepping up and showing us something good.

Well, why can't we do that and also tank? Y'know, like we've been doing for the past 7 games.

Either way, we're in the same boat – no playoffs and no pick.

We're closer to picking in the top 5 than we are to making the playoffs at this point and trending downward.

Right, but if we're not going to keep our pick I'd rather see the kids step up than lay down. At this point I think you dump Gordon, shut down Ryno/Jrue and let the chips fall where they may.
