In other terms, which positions tend to be the most difficult to predict how they will play out?

It would be interesting to devise a way to look at correlation between individual positions, their pre-college rankings, and their production through college.

Of course this would be totally statistical, which doesn't guarantee success, but the findings could help a recruiting process out to focus on particular position rankings which show higher success rates when considering rankings, and focus on the individual > rankings on the positions that showed less correlation of success.

Plausible?

I would say OL/DL, mostly because sometimes these kids are just huge in HS and get by with bad technique because of their size

Anyone know what happened to Seantrel Henderson? Pretty sure some recruit experts said he would have been a 1st RD draft pick out of HS

The positions that require the most development, and the most knowledge. Most recruiting guys have no idea of alot of the technique needed, nor do they have the ability to assess if the player will pick up the coaching. I would say the most diff is linemen on both sides, QB, and you never really know how safeties will pan out sometimes.

You generally see pretty good predictability with RB, Ath, and WR.

O-line definitely.

Safety is weird too, though. And that carries over to the next level. A lot of small school guys playing safety in the NFL.

The only reason I think he went there was because of that dude handing out prostitutes and cash, other than that I have no idea.

OL
QB
CB
DL

In that order imo

Basically the positions that rely as much on mental toughness and technique as they do on physical ability.

I have to agree the OL being highly unpredictable.

I feel like DL should be as difficult as an OL.

Agree with poster above who noted that they just get by on size and have poor technique.

Oline is the correct answer. They just stand there in high school and push back a kid 100 lbs lighter than them.
