I bought a Thermapen a year or so back and love it, but I still get their email sales. Today one came through that looked interesting. It's a new thermometer that is just a little slower, but a whole lot cheaper. 5-6 seconds vs 3. ($24) Sorry for the large picture, it's the only one I could find. Just thought I'd share.

Seems nice and all but I don't understand the need for a 100$ thermometer or a $24 one either when these are $16 all day on Amazon.

The $100 are instant read, the $16 one takes 8-10 seconds, does not seem like a lot but it really helps when you are working on a super hot grill. They are not for everybody, but I enjoy mine

If you are checking the internal temp of a loaf of sourdough bread you spend 24+ hours preparing with slow proof times, it is nice having a super fast read that doesn't require you to lose lots of oven heat. They are also extremely accurate. But at $100, they are certainly not for everyone. There is also a difference in build quality and accuracy. The thermapens are manufactured in England and hand assembled and calibrated. Also thermocouple vs themistor.

My father in law bought me one for Christmas a few years ago. He always jokes with me about the number of emails they send out for advertising. Well, mine finally broke so I had to buy a new one. Holy crap he was right! Not a big deal but they do send out a ton of email. Great product though!
