The progressives ought to get behind this, it will put free government supplied photo ID's into the hands of the most vulnerable in our society, those they claim can't obtain a photo ID like normal functional citizens.

I say call their bluff and also automatically register them to vote at the same time they get the photo ID and allow same day voter registration since fraud won't be a problem with ID.

But you know I then bet the Republican won't support free ID and automatic voter registration and same day voter registration because it will mean that minorities will vote.

vulnerable to what?

laziness?
poor choices?
lack of accountability?
self-pity?
blame deflection?

No it wouldn't. Re-read the article. It said it would require an ID to use the card. It didn't say it would put a Photo ID on the card itself which I think would be a fantastic idea. SAM's cards have photo ID's on them. How hard would it be to place a Photo of the recipient on the card itself? Once this is in place, I see no reason for not allowing this card to be used as ID for voting.

This sounds like a good idea.

Food stamps still sold and exchanged out there? If so, this would help ensure that people who get those benefits are buying food for themselves and their children instead of something else.

That's actually a pretty good counter move.

I would whole heartedly support this. I am a reformed republican (now Libertarian). Does that count?

Which "their"?
It would be a pretty good bluff and would never happen.
