PFF Ranks the Offensive Line units for 2013 season

The entire line is ranked, not individual players, with best and worst of each line. They also provide previous year rankings for each. For those that do not know, PFF's rankings are based on their grades of each players.

(current year rank, team, prior year rank)
32. Cardinals (32)
31. Falcons (15)
30. Jaguars (29)
29. Giants (11)
28. Ravens (17)
27. Raiders (24)
26. Seahawks (20)
25. Jets (3) - biggest drop off
24. Colts (31)
23. Bears (30)
22. Titans (14)
21. Texans (10)
20. Chiefs (12)
19. Dolphins (23)
18. Steelers (25)
17. Rams (26)
16. Patriots (2)
15. Bills (13)
14. Bucs (18)
13. Chargers (28)
12. Packers (21)
11. 49ers (1)
10. Saints (6) (for Saints fans - 8th in pass blocking, 14th in run blocking, 5th in penalties)
9. Eagles (19) - #1 in run blocking
8. Panthers (27) - most improvement in ranking
7. Lions (7)
6. Vikings (9)
5. Browns (5)
4. Cowboys (22)
3. Redskins (16)
2. Bengals (8)
1. Broncos (4) - 1st in pass blocking, 10th run blocking, 12th in penalties
I find it amazing that the Broncos are ranked first despite 1) losing their first and second team centers for the year in training camp and replacing them with a backup guard who sucked the previous year and never played center before and 2) losing their All-Pro left tackle in the 2nd game and replacing him with a perennial back-up that was listed as a tight end at one point a few years earlier. Even more amazing was the linemen who graded the worst was a 3 or 4 year starter at left guard.

Here are some tidbits from a different PFF article to help explain Denver's ranking:
• Center Manuel Ramirez was one of just three centers to have a +2.0 rating or better in pass blocking, run blocking, screen blocking and penalties.
• Right guard Louis Vasquez hasn’t allowed a sack since Week 13 of the 2012 season back when he was with the Chargers. His consecutive games played without allowing a sack is the longest for all guards.
• Right tackle Orlando Franklin only allowed 24 pressures all season which was third lowest among offensive tackles. While two others allowed fewer, each player played over 140 fewer passing snaps than Franklin.

Washington #3 seems questionable

PFF anticipated this response.

Analysis: This ranking won’t please many Redskins fans who see the line as the root of their problems. The truth is the Shanahans had the zone blocking scheme working perfectly with huge cutback lanes regularly there for their backs to work with. Much is made of the hits Robert Griffin III took as if every single one of them must be the responsibility of the line. Well we charged RGIII himself with 10 of those sacks (more than any other player on the team) as the team gave whoever was quarterback ample time to get the job done. The big question now is what Jay Gruden intends for this line and whether he’ll move to a more power based scheme that could put a number of jobs on the line.

Oh boy
Skins fans do not want to hear anything bad about RGIII

I know these rankings aren't completely accurate or rather good to gauge everything on...but the Saints have a better line than Seattle?

Seattles pass blocking is pretty suspect. Wilson lets them get away with a lot

they went from being a 5-11 team last year to 10-6 team this year.
with the same rank at O-line... hmmm.

Substitute Seattle for NO and Wilson for Brees and that sentence still makes sense

San Fran is winning this week I think. Kaep, as much as I dislike him, can throw way better than Wilson, moves just as well, and has better receiving threats.
Saints should not have lost that game, but oh well.

Defense played lights out this year and I believe they actually had a QB this year.

with the money they spent in FA and drafting Warmack in the first round, this is absolutely pathetic...

In the regular season:
Wilson 257-407 (63.1%),3357 yards, 8.25 yards/attempt, 26/9 TD/INT ratio, 101.2 passer rating
Kaep 243-416 (58.4%),3197 yards, 7.69 yards/attempt, 21/8 TD/INT ratio, 91.6 passer rating

So great to see the Eagles up there after having horrendous line play the last few years under Reid.

I blame the decline on Jonathan Goodwin. Time to retire.

PFF can lick a dick. If the Dolphins had the 19th best O-line in the league this year, they'd have easily, EASILY made the playoffs.

and I believe they actually had a QB this year.
I'm just saying... they improved in every offensive statistic.
but sometimes, I just wonder how they determine their grades.
how do we know PFF is in tune with what a defense or offense is trying to do in a certain scheme?
like one player could be penalized a few points when in fact the reason could be that another player just screwed up.
Arizona gave up 58 sacks in 2012.
this year, the total fell to 41.
part of that is because of Palmer like you mentioned but you can't blame every sack on the line. Sometimes the QB holds the ball to long because the WR's aren't getting open.
Palmer also tossed 22 interceptions this year and last year Arizona's QBs combined to throw for 21 interceptions.
I don't know... guess I just found that ranking interesting. That is all.
