A friend from Canada (who now lives in North TX) posted on FB today about a bomb threat called into her son's school here in the DFW area.

One of her Canadian friends immediately responded telling her to move back to Canada where the NRA doesn't have a lock on their politics.

BC these type of posts are the only upside to FB other than sharing news with out of town family, I responded asking if the NRA called in the fake bomb threat. Another of her Canadian friends said that the NRA obviously didn't call in the actual threat but they created the culture of fear in the US and school bomb threats were a direct result of that culture. I then asked when the NRA started promoting the right to bear bombs. Silence and deleted posts.

ETA - I know, cool story. Now if they had responded to the text shooter, I would have left it alone.

The NRA's statements in regard to the various (many) massed shootings in the last year or so have been very very retarded.

Doesn't mean I want to lose my right to own a hand gun though.

Canadians are miserable people, most likely because they live in a largely irrelevant nation which is known most famously for being America's hat.

I can understand that. Just wondering what the NRA has to do with a fake bomb threat. It was obvious they didn't catch on until several posts later. They didn't get what I was saying at all. I found it funny that the mysterious NRA (which they obviously know nothing about) is the root of all bad in the US. Sounds like someone hears a lot of talk about the NRA and repeats it without knowing what they're talking about.

Serious question: what is the NRA position on bombs?

San Antonio/College Station are my old stomping grounds.

I'd take Dallas in a heartbeat over living here in Missouri, though. I walked outside today in 20 degree weather and thought it "wasn't bad," because it's been -10 degrees here the past couple weeks.

There's something wrong with that picture

During the summer of 1996, Congress approved an NRA-backed proposal (an amendment to Section 732 in H.R. 3610, the Omnibus Consolidation Appropriations Act of 1997) that an independent body examine all technologies that allow explosives to be detected before a terrorist or criminal explodes his bomb in addition to those that will identify the explosive after a blast. NRA fought hard for the inclusion of this language, knowing that preventive technologies offer our best hope for enhanced public safety and more effective law enforcement. That independent body is the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), which completed the study and published their findings and recommendations in a report titled: "Black and Smokeless Powders: Technologies for Finding Bombs and the Bomb Makers."

Wow you told them.

You also reinforced their view of us on the NRA.

Wasn't trying to "tell them". But if you're going to make posts about how awful the US is and blame the NRA for all fake bomb threats in the US, maybe they should be informed as to what the NRA supports.

Because a lot of our kids were in that school yesterday when the bomb threat was called in and it was ignorant and insensitive for those people to immediately jump in and bash the US and throw ignorant claims around when they could have simply said, "Glad you're kid's ok."

By showing them that their comment was completely wrong?

Well that's a good thing, isn't it?
