Is practically tied to University study? Oh, just basketball. I'd burn down every NFL stadium (including the Dome) for another LSU title, but you boys sure are selfish. NFL players have a shorter shelf life than most, and guys who may be in the top fifty in the world at what they do are practically forced to do it for free for two years. Google, Microsoft, Facebook, even the fricking CIA used to recruit uniquely gifted individuals right out of high school. fricking Bill Gates, Michael Dell, and Mark Zuckerberg "left early". Why should these guys lay their bodies on the line for free? Gates' mind is still fine at 55. An RB's body is shot at 30. These kids spend some of their peak
years as apprentices.

Thought I'd stir the pot.

That's not my fault they're foolish enough to not take advantage of a free education and the incredible network opportunities that come along with being an athlete at a state school.

In fact, many of them will never go pro. LSU only had 39 former players on NFL rosters. considering we have 85 kids on scholarship every single year, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the odds of making it are minuscule.

I take it you don't have an intelligent rebuttal to offer, then?

You're being obtuse. Some blow up in the NFL, some don't. If they're starting at a top D1 program, they've been led to believe that they have "it" their entire lives. Taking the chance is the financially sound thing to do. If they pan out, they'll make several times more in their twenties than hardworking professionals make by the time they retire in their 60s.

Well it should have been implicit, but I'm talking about guys who are uniquely talented enough to appear capable of performing at a professional level.

No rebuttal. I actually agree. As I've said on this board many times, I think its a shame that the state institutions have sided with the NCAA/NFL collusion to manipulate the labor market. Universities have become minor league sports franchises that moonlight as institutions of higher learning. Plus, their cash flow is highly dependent on a quasi-legal system that bars 18-20 year-olds from earning what they are truly worth.

I absolutely hate major college athletics and the NCAA, but I am totally addicted to their product.

That's just ignorant. Every player on that team has a different situation, and you can't just say that because LSU only has 39 players in the NFL, the chances are slim for a player to "make it" and therefore, a player as talented as Hill shouldn't declare.

It's not like it's the university that is keeping them here.

It's their own league that won't take them out of HS. I'm in the camp that I'd prefer an NFL D league who drafts out of HS and the rest can go to college and get drafted later after 3 years. Similar to baseball I guess.

Hill should declare.

Trai Turner and some others are foolish to leave early if they drop below the 3rd round. The financials support that.
