So, I have a very tattered American flag that I need to dispose of, but wanted to do it the correct way. I've always heard that I should bring it to a VFW Post or something along those lines, anyone else have suggestions? According to this site, I can also burn it. Does that sound correct? figured you'd just integrate it into your costume for the next game.

Personally, I would see to it that it goes to a VFW just to ensure proper disposal. But that's just me...

Bring it to a local VFW hall. They usually have a ceremony a couple of times a year where they dispose of American Flags in accordance with the US Flag Code.

Throw it in the trash? Burn it? Give it to someone? It's a flag, not a goddamned person.

This is America, bro,

You can do whatever you want.

Want to be respectful and patriotic, take it to the VFW. Or you can burn it or bury it or just throw it in the trash. Or shite on it. Doesn't matter. Your call.

There is a proper way to burn it. I wouldn't risk looking like a terrorist. Just take it to the VFW. They live for that stuff.

Would make a great story though: OP's in his backyard by the burn pile and before you know it SWAT has his arse pinned to the ground.

It's a symbol. It's not like America is going to burn with it. Plus, have you paid attention to the way this country is being run? frick em

I thought you were supposed to burn them if they touched the ground?

Boy scouts do it sometimes, too.

Boy/Cub scouts need them sometimes. Maybe give them a call as well. When my boys were in cub scouts they did the "ritual" at one of the weekend camping things. I got to see it and it was kind of cool. Something interesting to see once. You can also call any service branch office and they may take it for you as well.
You can burn it yourself but it has to be done in a specific manner. Or you can be disrespectful like the a-hole in this thread that doesn't get what the flag represents.
