Was it any good? I stopped watching Star Trek after TNG ended, other than the occasional DS9 episodes. I saw the 1st season of Voyager for sale for $5 the other day. I should've picked it up anyway, but I didn't know if I would be worth my while.

You should watch DS9, first. Much of the early set up of Voyager is better if you have the background of the Maquis, the Cardassians, etc. - and, in the grand scheme of things, DS9 is a better series - the best of the post-TOS series, IMHO.

(ETA: I've never watched Voyager all the way to the end - UPN was kicking off during the middle of the run and not every cable system carried it - once I lost track of Voyager, it was tough. I think I got through Seaon 4 as it aired. Similar to you, I've only caught a few episodes of Enterprise.)

It's on Netflix. I just finished it. The captain is a chick and is annoying but some of the other characters are good. I enjoyed the premise of the show more than TNG, which I could never really get into.

Oh, I know the history of DS9. I should have been more clear. I watched most of the 1st season of DS9. I would only occasionally catch an episode here and there of the 2nd season. I may go back and buy the $5 Voyager season.

I would just go and finish DS9 before you bothered with Voyager. Compared to TNG Voyager is a bit 'better' if in terms of being darker/more bleak. I enjoyed most of it but it's certainly less memorable than DS9. The characters were sort of 'meh.'

I'm in the "no other captains but Kirk and Picard" boat. My wife and friend (both big trekkies) insist DS9 is worth a watch, but I can't make myself do it.

I enjoyed DS9 more mainly because of Garrick. He was one of the most compelling characters in the Trek universe. Avery Brooks high pitched whine when he is angry gets old. His son was Wesley like.

I like Voyager but only because of Phlox. Janeway was dull. Chokotay made her look exciting. He was one of the worst characters in Trek history only behind Wesley.

I guess I liked the plots more than the characters in Voyager.

It's pretty good, I watched nearly all the episodes and followed it to the end. Many if not most episodes are just OK but there are some really good/great ones mixed it. Overall I liked it better than DS9 and less than TNG.

Your wife should file for immediate divorce.

That will probably not happen; I don't have NetFlix and I'm not gonna buy all x amount of seasons to finish it.

Certainly Garrick is the best "minor" character - perhaps in all of Star Trek. The other "major" Cardassian, Gul Dukat, I have argued in the past, is the finest, most fully developed and 4-dimensional villain in science fiction history. How Mark Alaimo didn't get more accolades at the time is beyond me.

Great villains make for a great story.

We live in the internet age. I'll say no more.

Gul Dukat is great. As is Weyoun during the Dominion arc. DS9 just has so many memorable characters, especially amongst the villains. And some villains become 'heroes.'

Phlox was on Enterprise not Voyager. But he was a great character.

B'llana Torres, Tom Paris, Harry Kim, and The Doctor were all good characters that should have more of a role.

Janeway, Chokotay and Neelix all sucked.

The Doctor

Best character (and actor) on Voyager by a wide, wide margin. My second favorite Trek doctor (also by a wide margin).

DS9 is better but Voyager has its moments.

For Voyager, I enjoyed the Borg and Species 8472 episodes and the "Year of Hell" episode was well done.

Agreed. I also liked Torres and think Paris could have been good if they used him more. Janeway and Chokotay were shite though.

ETA: Seven of Nine

DS-9 Started slow, but picked up about year 3. Went out with a bang...

Yup. Not sure how I wrote that while thinking of Piccardo.
